Then he calls the guys into the huddle: “Hey guys, we signed some slapdick off the street” Enter, the savior.
Bret Ratliff, QB, New York Jets. Equipment guy has to pull the Darnold tag off the locker and marker in "Brett Ratliff" but he spells it wrong.
It doesn't matter, there is no way the Jets cut this guy before the end of his rookie contract. Darnold will get this money, to hold it up for offset language that will never come to pass is ridiculous especially since this team has had one decent QB (Pennington) in the last 30 years. This is the only franchise that could screw this up.
So many things here... 1. How do you know it's the Jets holding this up? Read up on Jimmy Sexton. 2. Mayfield's contract includes offset language. If the number 1 pick's contract has it, the Jets are well within their rights to demand the 3rd pick's contract has it. If this is on the Jets, then it's because they aren't backing down from a situation where they hold all the cards. 3. You have no idea what's going to happen four years from now.
Don't think it's happening today fellas http://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/...darnold-deal-new-york-jets-set-first-practice
cc: @No Fly Zone As I was saying... it makes no sense whatsoever for the Jets to cave and it's Jimmy Sexton that is being the asshole here. He just doesn't want to "lose" with both of his high profile clients. That's all this is.
I'd say I'll be one of them but if Darnold isn't there, there's a good chance I don't even make the 90 minutes trek from CT.
