So how have they got round this to offer a first contract to the TE Herndon, did he sign before or after his incident ?
Not sure of the timeline but there’s no reason to believe he does not have the same language in his contract. Thing is , he has not been fined or suspended for anything so it’s really a non issue at this point.
Apropos of nothing but when would Herndon get suspended? He was clearly DWI, kind of hoping last couple of games this year if we’re out of it, he serves his suspension. I think he’s going to be a big weapon for us, would like to get that frivolity out of the way before we make our push next year. Same with Dillon Donahue.
The Jets would have to cut Herndon before attempting to void the guarantees. I don't see that happening anytime soon.
Herndon has NOWHERE near the gaurantees a Darnold contract would though, so its a bit different... he may have 0 gtd tbh
The only thing I can find in the CBA pertains to players under contract. Can you please refer me to the section that discusses penalties for unsigned rookies?
If Manish is right with his Darnold reporting I may need to give him another chance. I like the way he is trying to hold the agent accountable.
You know lawyers,pretty sure you are one, they will drag it out as long as possible.he won’t serve a suspension until the courts settle. I agree on him being big. You have to go back pretty far to find a te from the U that didn’t workout
But lee does, Williamson does. It’s a standard clause in the jets contracts. Sexton knows this, has agreed to it with other players he reps and is playing hard ball now? Darnold needs to grow a pair and step up
So I just read he told his agents to get it done..and they said no not until we get X ..to which he said “ok”. Are we sure this guy isn’t an idiot or something? The agents have no power over him, really..And there’s a zillion of them out there.. intact, I can make the case he really doesn’t event need one until 1 year before FA.. he’s slotted I’m to what he’ll make $ wise..and as bitch cimini pointed out, odds are good he won’t be cut during this deal.. But I say all that, and maybe he actually is being smart..he’s a USC guy right? Odds are good he’ll be a bust anyway..so why not get as much $ as possible?
Mehta on FAN now... if u take him at his word, this is on Sexton... the “fine voidables” are something 5 or so other teams use as well, and limited to peds, conduct detrimental team, etc.. nothing petty like lateness, celebration penalty, etc... he says Darnold and his family are apparently not too happy, and he expects this resolved in the very short term, a day or 2... stay tuned, but this is positive

More from the same chat... it’s still Darnold’s job to lose... doesnt have to outplay the other 2 per say, just has to appear “ready” ie not overwhelmed... he likened it to last years competition where Hack had the same opportunity to do so... we know how that went for him though.. but in all fairness to those who think Bowles wont play rookies, the reality is McCown hardly played last preseason and its very fair to say Hackneas given the chance, just failed miserably.
