Is it time to start shopping him? let him sit the year and or try and trade him? keep the two we have and keep building the team.
According to Rich Cimini the real hold up is that the Jets want darnold to agree to forfeit his guarentee'd money if he is merely fined. All of the other quarterbacks have the clause but rather than a fine it takes them being suspended for them to give up the money. Screw this team.
How much guaranteed $ would he forfeit? All of it? Over a FINE? You can be fined for being 90 seconds late to a meeting If this is the case it's the team. But I also suspect this could be put out there by Jimmy Six Ton to paint the franchise in a bad light Weird thing for the Jets to demand
He also wants to not lose any money if he is hurt outside of football or at least not lose ALL of what he would be set to lose.
This may provide some clarity on the Sam Darnold standoff: While the offset clause remains an issue, the major sticking point, as I understand it, is default language pertaining to guaranteed money. Under the Jets' proposal, Darnold's entire guarantee will void if he's fined by the league for discipline or conduct on/off the field. This is different from the Baker Mayfield and Josh Allen contracts. In their cases, their guarantee voids with a suspension, not a fine. Big difference. The Jets' approach is unusual based on recent history. It's believed that, in the last 10 drafts, no top-3 pick had voidables tied to league fines. This may sound petty, but Darnold has a $30 million guarantee over the life of the proposed contract Cimini
I'm assuming, if true, that it is a league mandated fine rather than a team one. Still, seems excessive. I can see why Darnold's team would object to it.
I see. Yea makes sense We're very much in a fog of war stage of these negotiations. Not sure who and what to believe
Right but the guy likes to surf, wakeboard and ride in boats...etc. Those are liable pastimes begging for him to get accidentally injured. What if a shark eats his throwing arm in the off season? Why should the Jets pay him his fully guaranteed money? Serious by the way.
I would say there’s less than a 50% chance this is true. It would have come out a whole lot sooner than now. To me, this reeks of Sexton taking an ass whipping in the media and now he’s trying to control the narrative. Also, there’s no way Mac is this dumb.
I can't trust that report. Darnold's people could easily leak that info to Rich to make the Jets look like complete morons.
If this is true then the blame shifts directly from Darnold to the Jets. It's absurd for them to think that Darnold would agree to that, and even more to the point, this is not the time or player for the Jets to decide to suddenly adopt a get tough policy no one has ever had before.
Yeah, that is why I feel it is not true. Fed to Rich from Sam's people. When he signs, we will hear the true story. This is BS. Not a good first impression though. Horrendous actually. Only the Jets.
That's probably a Darnold leak just like the post above was probably a Jets leak. I remember the same leak game playing out with the Fitz contract.
Let's be really careful here. This impasse has lasted long enough to piss off fans, so both sides will start leaking stuff to their favorite reporters. Neither side wants the fanbase to think they're the bad guy, and a leak of information (true or not) can ratchet up the pressure on the other side. Some of the leaked information may be true, but I wouldn't assume all of it is.
