If it goes into the season then maybe but not for preseason. I wonder if it removes a year from his accrued service towards free agency tho.

The Jets haven't had a holdout in years. They havent had a long term holdout, one miss long periods of time since I don't know when. The we are the Jets nonsense doesn't really work here. Love the automatic idea that it's the zjets fault too, agents never muck it up for teams.

He loses money for each day he misses, he can be charged a game check for each preseason game he misses and if he has not reported by Aug 5Th , this season doesn't count as an accrued season. Per the CBA.

So if he shows up August 6th we get him 6 years not 5?

We theoretically could appeal to the league to tax his contract but it's very unlikely that would happen unless he misses significant time and doesn't start the majority of the season. It is a possibility.

It would never fly though because we would be the "villain"

Here's the scoop from the N.Y. Post: "It is unclear specifically what the Jets and Darnold are haggling over, but the language in the contract appears to be the biggest issue."

What a news flash. They're fighting over the language of the contract? Damn, I figured it was over what kind of paper it was printed on or maybe what color ink Darnold would use to sign it. Now I feel a lot better knowing that they're fighting over what the contract actually says.

It all depends on how much time he misses and how it affects his year 1 development. Remember the Vikings had the choice to tax Bridgewater and keep him another year but chose not to because they didn't feel his knee was healthy.

The hold up is about how the signing bonus is paid and clauses that could void the contract. Arrest, long suspension, etc.

If that truly is the case then it should be wrapped up fairly soon. You can find middle ground on this stuff

I know, Tony, my post was intended to be sarcastic. The things you mention are part of the language of the contract. It struck me as a Capt. Obvious point to say that they're fighting over the language of the contract, because the language of the contract is the contract. I found it funny that the reporter would try to make such an obvious statement sound like a big scoop.

    I a
    I apologise.
I just think it's crazy how we multiple threads with hundreds of post based on an incorrect tweet from Cimini that the hold up is based on offset language.

So in terms of that Manish report that Darnold is very much here and is waiting on his agent to just sign of....

I went to practice today. Before getting in the shuttle we went across the road to one of the hotels to take a leak. There was a black SUV waiting outside and as we pulled up, two cars with Jets logos pulled up and people got out, walked into the hotel with papers.

Draw your own conclusion but I think Manish is correct.

Maybe they need to sweeten the deal with the agent with some literal sweets. Looks like he can't say no to a donut or 12.

The Jets should under no circumstance cave into Sexton.
The whole premise of allowing no off set language is absurd. If he tanks out the $ is guaranteed, why should any player be allowed to “double dip” and possibly earn more than the set rookie pay scale.

If Darnold had any balls he would tell that fat fuck - I’m a stud and there is no fucking way their cutting me during this contract, so let’s get it done. Every day he misses escalates the chances he doesnt see the field his rookie season and potentially hurts his second contract.

Was never a huge Teddy B fan and wasn’t thrilled originally but kudos to Mac for bringing him in and I am now rooting for him big time.

    Could be the laundry bill.

Actually I believe once he signs it will be done at the Jets facility and they will do an instagram photo shoot with the backdrop and Jets helmet on the table. However...who knows this could be them just bringing things over for Jimmy Six Ton and Darnold to review.

This just needs to get done

Yeah. He’s close so he can go to the facility and sign. Also, as soon as those formalities are handled he can run down to the locker room, change, and hit the field.
