Jets taking 1 step backward and then 2 steps backwards. Not what you want in rebuilding...

Or precisely what you want if your goal is to oust the coach, score a high draft pick, and start over with the top QB prospect available.

Darnold then starts 2021 with a better coach, an OL that’s got some experience together and is hopefully upgraded, and some weapons that we pick up in the offseason. We finally get to see what we have in him. If he ups his game we can pick up the 5th year option on his contract and dangle him as trade bate. If he suddenly becomes all world then we have an amazing problem on our hands.

Not that any of that will necessarily happen, but here’s hoping.

I'm losing faith in him. He's shown flashes, but even Geno had good games.

Sam is not the guy. It's painfully obvious at this point.

You cannot consistently win turning the ball over as often as he does.

Watch Sam land in New England once he hits free agency and Belichick turns him into a perennial pro bowler.

He's not the answer here, clearly, but he's been put in the worst possible situation for a young QB. Get him in a quality situation and I think he'll be an average starter. He has a ton of talent. He's not a finished product by any means: he needs to be coached up, clean up his fundamentals, and cut down on his bad mistakes.

Like seriously what do yall expect with this skill set of skill players? Its dreadful. Im not saying Darnold isnt helping himself but honestly none of these current batch of WR's are helping him right now. I honestly expect his play to improve just because guys like Crowder , Perriman and Mims will return. Only guy Sam seemingly has a grest connection with is Berrios right now. Hes the only WR that can get open. And Gase cant scheme guys open it seems

He continues to show elite creative traits but also bad decisions. I don’t think a single one of those picks is completely Darnold’s fault. It’s truly painful to see him so let down by bad blockers and bad receivers.

Could you imagine Belichick going after Darnold just to stick it to the Jets by winning with him?

Joe Burrow was 31/44 for 312 yards with 2 touchdowns and no turnovers. He did so while getting sacked 8 times and got rocked as bad as you'll ever see a modern day NFL QB get hit.

He also had the support of 49 yards on the ground (17 attempts - 2.9 yards per carry).

Today was a good game plan for Sam. Got him on the edges a lot and moved the pocket and ran some bootlegs. He again wasn't heavily pressured. He was atrocious today (and don't worry - I'm still on the fire Gase wagon).

Huh? The end zone pick is 100% on him and the second pick six looks like a miscommunication but probably results in a pick anyway. The corner clearly had inside leverage. The only difference is Hogan might've had a shot at breaking the pass up if he ran the inside hook. Looks like if it's an option route based on coverage - Hogan ran it the right way.

As far as the end zone pick is concerned it looks like it was cover 3 (I initially thought cover 2 and Rhodes sank extremely deep). It's an awful pass against cover 3.

I can't for the life of me understand why in the world he was trying to attack Rhodes with no Hooker or Rock Ya-Sin on the other side. The first pick is 50/50 on the receiver and Sam. Receiver needs to fight back to the ball but he also stared the target down like crazy.

I still think Sam is going to be fine. He's missing all his receivers, running back, both tackles, and the team has no defense.

And multiple times today. Multiple times, he managed to get off 3rd down would-be conversion passes that clanked off the hands of Jets receivers. Well.... actually I'm not even sure the Griffin drop touched his hands he whiffed it so badly.

Jets need to get him some help is what needs to happen.

1st is 50/50 Darnold/Herndon. Not a great decision but it was a weak route by Herndon and he should have fought for the breakup. 2nd, Rhodes clearly botched the coverage. He went zone instead of man, which Darnold saw. However Rhodes realized his mistake, pealed off, and found himself in a great location for a nice athletic play. It would have been a good decision by Darnold if he gave it a nice arc and floated it to the corner of the end zone but he underestimated Rhodes’ athleticism. The last 1 clearly a miscommunication although I’m not sure who it’s on.

That's what the announcers said. But whether it's cover 1 with one high safety or man coverage, Sam tossed the ball right into the corners face in the end zone. It was an awful throw whatever the reason is (I'm not sure I agree with Trent Green's assessment - I'll have to rewatch it).

Again - the second pick six is a bad throw regardless of any miscommunication. If the receiver breaks in, instead of out, you're looking at the same result. The corner is sitting there in zone coverage.
