I totally disagree which is fine. FYI my first live football game was at Yankee Stadium. Fran Tarkenton to Homer Jones. I became a Jets fan because of an over rated QB that's in the HOF.
I didn't know too many people that didn't laugh when they heard that story. Dude had a gun in the pocket of his sweatpants at a titty bar. That's got all the makings of a good joke.
I don't know why I'm doing this, but... https://deadspin.com/ok-for-the-last-time-plaxico-burress-was-not-wearing-5808875 OK, For The Last Time: Plaxico Burress Was Not Wearing Sweatpants The Night He Shot Himself
Nobody questions his ability to make special throws. The problem is many of those special throws are special because he's able to make them without a stable base. Which is great because he can make throws other QBs can't, but his tendency to do that means it's hard to throw the ball downfield consistently without getting intercepted. (He did it on that throw, but I don't know how well he can repeat it.) If he had a Mahomes arm it would be different, but since he doesn't he has to learn to step into every throw he can and be selective with when he uses his ability to throw without setting his feet properly. We'll see if he can do that.
I think his early season interceptions were far more attributable to bad decisions/slow processing than poor alignment in his feet. He threw 1 pick in the final 4 games without altering his mechanics, so I’m not sure it was the feet leading to turnovers.
Sam's not perfect. He's gonna make some bad throws...and some great ones. It looks like we're pushing the ball further down field...by design. Good to see. We haven't seen the full offensive package...and we won't until Bell & Herndon get on the field.
- 2016: Darnold's 2nd to last year (redshirt freshman) USC went 10-3 and ended up top 5 ranked in the coaches poll. - 2017: Darnolds's last year (sophomore) USC went 11-3, wins the Pac-12 conference and ended up top 10 ranked in the coaches poll (i.e. his TGG 'bad' year). - 2018: Darnold's gone - USC posts losing records in both conference play (4-5) and overall (5-7)...and enters the 2019 season unranked for the 1st time in nearly 2 decades. And to think some people still look at Darnold as Chuck Knoblauch in shoulder pads when it comes to throwing a football...
I don’t remember many of his ints being mechanical issues. When he has a clean pocket he can step and throw with the same accuracy. I know your guarding your optimism here, it’s ok, get excited, this is happening. Sam’s about to be everything we hoped for.
Unfortunately I can't find a video with all Darnold's interceptions in it, and I don't have time to watch the highlights of each game to find them. There were definitely some INTs that were mental, but I'm more confident he can fix those. As far as his footwork, this article sums it up pretty well. https://thedraftnetwork.com/articles/rookie-qb-review--sam-darnold
