Geno also had Chris Ivory, Austin Howard, and Willie Colon. Those were much better conditions for a rookie QB compared to this year.

Wow, how did I forget about Ivory? Throw Ivory in there, and I'll put Geno's skill position players equal with Darnold's.

The guy wasn’t supposed to start this season. Let him learn from this and get the experience. Part of the growing pains. Yeah he hasn’t been too good the last few games. He got to learn the speed of the game. Got to work on his mechanics and not being so predictable with his eyes and who he is throwing to. You can can trash you want, yeah he stinking up a joint right now but to compare him to sanchez and Geno is beyond sillly. As some said, let’s see where he is at year 3.

I’m not going to pretend to be an OC genius

But most of the good ones seem to take the drop

    Plant the back foot

    Bounce and throw

    If that’s not there

They make next read and throw assuming there is time

Today Sam seemed to be very flat footed and in mud at the end of his drop. Whether his wr’s were covered or if he was hesitant, he held onto the ball too long

That’s why I think they need to start calling 1 read plays- dumb it down

    Bootlegs

    Screens

    RPA

Quick 3 step drop and out of his hand

Or maybe this is just a learning process

I agree. I have typically watched the games after taping (and fast forwarding through them in between plays - ie. watching very little replays) so my perception might be off. However, it seems like Darnold has been throwing off his back foot quite a bit too much lately.

Makes me wonder why the Jets would think that one mind (combined OC and QB coach) is better than two (what most other teams do). Especially with a rookie QB, the Jet's off-season coaching decision seems counter-intuitive.

Watching the Jets O falter today and wasting a good defensive effort is very unnerving - not atypical or unexpected, just unnerving. After all these years I don't get depressed anymore.

I'll admit to the fact that I didn't see one second of today's game. With that being said, following it online was extremely frustrating and Darnold's numbers have me very concerned. I'm not bailing on him yet and I still stand by him being the best QB for the Jets to draft. I just need to see him take a step forward. It's been 3 mediocre to shitty games in a row now.

The eyes don't lie. It's the critical thinking that's missing. There's a difference between recognizing Sam has very little experience college or Pro and has below average talent around him. There's also a rookie salary cap in play which makes moving him forward critical to the teams ability to make a big leap in the talent around him if he in fact is the real deal.

I work on Sundays and I’ve missed most games this year but The fact that everyone on here is making excuses for him tells me everything I need to know to be honest

Lol. Pretty much every NFL QB will shine under those conditions.

I still don't think that Darnold is Sanchez by any means. Sanchez also had a better line, run game, receivers, and (I can't believe I'm saying this) a better offensive coordinator. Gate makes Schottenheimer look like Walsh. This is really tough to watch. It's too late for this season, but please, next year, let's get an experienced coach to run the offense.

Fair enough. At least give Darnold at least one of these things and he will show some good performance.

This board was also full of Sanchez and Rex apologists too for the longest time. They both got passes for the longest time.

2 INTs came on 4th down and 10 / 15 ... when he has no choice but to force a pass into coverage. See anyone open on those prayers?? Anyone judging him on "4" INTs, is a fool. He threw 2 horrendous passes today, and a lot of good passes. He's a rookie with no help out there ... and no help on the sideline. I'm not even CLOSE to panicking, but I do think this collection of losers are making him regress.
