That was an unbelievable performance from Darnold last night. The guy seems to turn in on in big games.
Was it? I didn’t come away impressed. Not for the hype he has been getting. He wasn’t the best player out there
I agree. I felt underwhelmed each time I watched the kid. Maybe it is because I was pre conditioned to see a great performance. On to Stidham today. Let's see what he is made of.
He did have a good stat line, if you didn't watch the game and looked at the stats alone it's all you can ask for from a QB. I think the hype has been so much that we expect Dan Marino type performance with him.
SUCK FOR SAM SUCK FOR SAM SUCK FOR SAM So thrilled posters are on this Bandwagon... Will he or Rosen be our Savior??? No guarantees but these guys are close to a lock imo if we hopefully go 4-12 and end up top 3 behind Giants and Cleveland...I am sticking by my guns ...Mortgage the future because there REALLY is NO FUTURE in this QB driven league...the OL is also extremely important but THIS is a major priority imo Phil gave up 5 picks to acquire Wentz...brilliant move by H Roseman...LA traded plenty for Goff Results? Just take a look guys Like I said before if Mac blows this I am absolutely finished here When the dust clears in 4 weeks buy out Happy Boy's 4th year and get a Ho;mgren or a Harbaugh in here.. More incentive for Darnold to leave college and feel confident starting his NFL career in NYC with GOOD coaching BTW "FOR ONCE GENO GET THE GIANTS A WIN" hahaha
. Absolutely agree-totally underwhelmed, and definitely not impressed. Fuck wins, gimme gaudy stats (70.8% comp. pct., 325 yds, 2 Tds?). Forget the 99 yrd. drive and that 54-yard pass with two DL pinching in his ears be damned. I bet if Rosen was out there instead of Darnold USC would've probably won the game. If any of you 'nosh-for-josh' occassional Pac-12 watchers took anything away from the Stanford-USC game (that is when you hooples weren't flipping channels) you would've seen an intriguing, emerging talent in Stanford QB K.J. Costello who just like Darnold last year came in as a redshirt freshman (taking over for an ineffective starter Keller Chryst), raised the level of his team and then beat a pair of top 10 teams (Wash. and ND). Not nearly the athlete Darnold is but Costello throws a nice, accurate ball and looks like he too may have the 'x' factor (read: winner) in him - someone to keep an eye on.
joe. I know little about college football and I know even less about the QB propects. I didn't watch Rosen's 1 full game but I was able to watch Darnold's 2 games. I didn't watch Mayfield or Lamar Jackson or Stidham. All I watched is Darnold and he didn't impress me. What do you want me to do? Shall I lie? Maybe the guy is great but he didn't impress me. If you are impressed then I hope you are right and he ends up at the Jets.
Don't worry, he won't end up with the Jets. The Jets will be "smarter than everybody else" and draft "the other Josh," Josh Allen of Wyoming. While there are Joe Montana's, leave it to the Jets to draft Josh Wyoming. : )
So if not Darnold, who do you want next? What do you think about Mayfield and Stidham? Those 2 names are being talked about a lot mostly Mayfield.
A lot to like about Mayfield esp. if you could put 10 more mph on his fast ball. Stidham's frame/package is attractive but the offense he ran gives him an "incomplete" grade to me. But in fairness to Stidham, I also wouldn't put too much stock into yesterday's loss to Georgia esp. given Auburn's injuries, Georgia's 'D' and the fact that Georgia's the better overall team. He's not coming out anyway. If Auburn's smart they don't let Malzhan go to Arkansas and with that in place Stidham's definitely playing at Auburn next year.
Okay. I am not worried about the extra 10 mph for Mayfield if that's the only thing that bothers you. I hope he drops to us.
That incomplete is not going to change in a year unless he leaves for the NFL or Malzhan leaves and they implement a new offensive scheme.
tebow was a winner, ken dorsey too. i don't need gaudy tats either. when i sit down to watch a top qb prospect i usually expect him to wow me. i thought more than a few throws woud not have played in the league. we'll see, i've been known to be wrong
Good point about Tebow and Dorsey (his 'Andre Johnson' surrounding talent aside). Back to Darnold: looking at today's Jet game, you know what McCown kinda looked like? Darnold. Not lights out sexy, but a clutch play here and a clutch play there (e.g. a 1st down scramble to keep a scoring drive alive) and even though he may've missed two potential TDs (to Anderson and Powell), the next thing you know they put up 30 points and find a way to get the 'W. A gamer who makes those around him better. I see that same 'presense' thing with Stanford's Costello and while I'm jumping the gun, I see a little Orange Bowl era Tom Brady-at-Michigan in him. Not much physically in shorts and a tee shirt but put a helmet on him and 10 other guys around him and that 'something' kicks in, meaning that if his team plays the opposition straight up, more times than not this guy will put 'em over the hump.
Damn shame USC got thrashed against ND earlier in the year, they could've been in the playoffs for sure. However, Darnold has a huge opportunity to get himself back into that QB1 talk with a big outing against Ohio State. That defensive line from OSU is dangerous, and the USC offensive line is pretty crappy. If Darnold can light it up against OSU, he should declare for the draft. There would be nothing further to prove IMO for Darnold, yeah he can go back to school to try and get back into the playoffs but I don't think he will help his stock next year.
There's something about USC that makes it hard for the QBs to leave. Sanchez was the only in recent memory to not go back, maybe that should have been a warning sign.
Matt Barkley is going to give him a nice phone call to tell him the repercussions of staying. I think it'll hurt him more to stay if he has a good outing.
Totally agree with that but I don't think that seems to factor in their decision. There's something in that water over there.
