JD should go before Saleh. At least Saleh has built a top notch defense. There is NO excuse for Douglas not addressing the O Line this past offseason, NONE. Pleading ignorance is not a defense. Furthermore, we do not have one coach/front office person in the building (minus Rodgers) who knows anything about selecting or grooming a top 10 NFL QB.
I saw that Saleh actually praised Zach after yesterday's loss. Seems to me the rah rah shit is not helping as Zach might actually think he had an acceptable performance throwing 3 picks. Saleh has been head cheerleader since he got here and honestly, at the podium you could almost see the invisible gun at his bald head while he was gaslighting the media.
I know its piling on, but if we had signed Minshew early and prior to AR, chances are we could have gotten a better deal from Green Bay and at least not had to flip 1st rd picks which obviously signficantly hurt us.
I was firmly in the Carr camp. I didn't see this debacle coming but I don't get paid to make strategic decisions either.
Gents I agree with you both. Bottom line is that JD had a whole offseason to figure out 1.) better alternatives to sure up the O Line and 2.) a better backup QB. He waited, waited and waited. That's not smart, that's foolhardy and now we're in the situation we're in. Barring Rodgers being healthy for all 17 games, this was basically how it was predestined to play out. Also regarding JD, not admitting you fucked up with the Zack pick it literally setting this franchise back several years. All this talent on both sides of the ball and there's a chance we'll never see it all come to fruition. Just awful.
Saleh has to stop with that. Zach Wilson should not be praised for his performance yesterday. Think about the other guys in that locker room, it is a slap in their faces. They bust their tails out there, get beaten down and expect to be held accountable for it.
The flipping of the picks didn't have to happen either way. JD pulled the trigger too early, if he waited for a couple of more days GB would have no choice but to take the deal without the swap. Imagine additional 110 mil on the GB CAP for the guy you don't want to play. But either way, he wasn't going with OT at 13. They showed on One Jets Drive how he knew all about Pitts coming in and how he had two guys rated over Jones anyway, how Saleh was saying the way the board broke it did not impact them at all, etc... The evidence is there that JD agreed to the swap because for him it was not so critical as he did not prioritize getting OT with that pick or in general he though it was not the highest priority. He later made no move to get Dawand Jones when he slipped all the way to the 4th (projected 2nd rounder by most) and instead traded down and got injury prone and much worse rated Carter Warren. Then signed Billy Turner coming off atrocious season to replace Fant and called it a day. It appears JD thought Duane Brown and Max (who also stunk last year and was hurt a lot) are fine starters plus Becton and Billy as insurance. He thought wrong and here we are again.
I feel like the Chiefs have two new tackles every year. Teams remake their offensive lines all the time. The Jets essentially stood pat. It’s mind boggling.
Nobody is getting fired this offseason because, haven't you heard, next year is going to be a SB season. With Rodgers coming back they aren't going to make any changes that Rodgers doesn't want.
This would not surprise me at all...as others stated his failure to abit that he blew it with ZW is a fatal flaw in this guys ego....
don’t forget they raising ticket prices 22 Percent because we are super bound baby. Jd and saleh taking us all the way 2024 is the year baby. Let’s use our no 4 overall pick this year to draft another re and hype him Up to the next bosa to sell those tickets
I've always found Ulbrich to overrated. I wish Saleh was calling the defensive plays himself. I think the defense would be truly elite. Hackett was just here to be Rodgers waterboy. Without Rodgers he is useless. My fantasy coaching staff made up of Jets vets: Anthony Lynn HC, Herm Edwards OC, Rex Ryan DC.
Ya--I think one of the announcers yesterday spoke about Ulrich being an HC candidate next year--freaking laughable.Saleh's fingerprints are all over this D; not Ulbrich's.
Well we need to see how this year pans out…Rodgers getting hurt gives both JD and Saleh a built in excuse…like it or not it does. I generally like JD as the overall roster talent level has increased, however, the OL being this bad this far into his tenure is a huge black mark, along with the Zach pick…while he didn’t outright trade him (like SF did with Lance) or cut him, he did acknowledge that Zach is not the guy and went out and got Rodgers. Actions over words. They can say all they want about Zach but they don’t trust him either. Saleh has built a good defense in collaboration with JD…they’ve gone out and drafted pass rushers and they have good DBs…we got worked yesterday but we went out on the road after a Monday night game to face a legit Super Bowl contender. I’m not shocked at all by the results. That being said, let’s see how this year plays out. It’s much different vibes if the team mails it in and we get blown out by 20 points consistently, as opposed to gutting out some tight wins and staying in it. Time will tell
I saw Rex on ESPN today Guy knew how a run game would work for the Jets This man got us to an AFC Championship game with......Mark Sanchez??? Not perfect ..but get this guy back!!
If I had to rate my feelings on Saleh and JD, with 1 being the worst and 10 being the best, I'm probably at a 3 for Saleh and a 5 for JD. Rodgers' injury will be the scapegoat for this season, and the team will probably do pretty well next year if Rodgers stays healthy, but Saleh and JD are not good coaches/GMs. The worst part of all of it is I just have no faith in anyone to hire the right guys even if Saleh and JD end up gone. I cannot for the life of me figure out why we didn't hire an offense-first head coach instead of Saleh. Almost all of the best coaching hires in recent years have been offense-first guys. The trend has been more than clear, and we totally ignored it as usual. "We want a CEO type blah blah" meanwhile our offense would get outscored by Long Island High School for the 80th year in a row. It's unfathomable levels of repeated stupidity and cluelessness.
This right here. THIS THIS THIS!!!! I was in the Carr camp as well. No loss of picks, considerably younger and more than adequate for what we had. THEN JD could have been focusing on the real need and that's O-Line!!!!! Carr could have sat back there and picked people apart had we put the amount of time and effort into our o-line that we did with Rodgers. The whole damn front office flew out to California to woo Rodgers!! Where was that fuckin' commitment to the freakin' o-line!?! I swear... I'm not down on Saleh for being "cheerleader" for Wilson. What's he going to say? Get up on the podium and tell the world that ZW sucks balls? Saleh is fine. You can only "cook the groceries" that are being shopped for you. This falls SQUARELY on JD. He's been hunting a decent o-line for some time now and there is NO EXCUSES. NONE. Hell, in the amount of time he's had that job, I could go find an o-line better than this. Every pick, outside the #1's should have been o-line. I get it...if you are of the mentality that you draft best possible player then you better damn sure cover those positions in FA and if not there then young linemen after the draft. You bring HUNDREDS in until you find the 4 or 5 you want to take to camp! One last note...for those that seemed to have forgotten. The NY Jets have NEVER let their GM hire the head coach. That scum Johnson always does the hiring for both positions. You'd think, by now, he'd have learned his lesson but, of course, like all billionaires...he thinks he knows it all. I'm starting to go down a rabbit hole I want to avoid.
