Consistency, yes, but even more, I want to find out if the attitude of this team is going to hold up through sustained losses. I'm still not convinced the Jets are going to win all that many games this year-- I will judge this coaching staff based on whether or not they still have this fight in them after a several losses in a row. It would be awesome to never find out, but I suspect we are going to find out soon.

There's a big difference between slogans and jingles chosen by coaches and nicknames earned by performance. I can't think of a coach derived term that prompted anything but chuckles, often derisive. I don't know whether terms like the Sack Exchange or Steel Curtain help motivate professionals but at least they came about somewhat organically rather than foisted on the public. In Pittsburgh, a radio station had a contest to find a great nickname for a great front four and seventeen listeners played off the infamous political iron curtain between east and west as well as Pittsburgh's reputation as a steel production hub. In New York it was a contest run by the Jets PR department that was won by the New York Sack Exchange for a couple of obvious and convenient reasons.

Victory in Curly Lambeau Field is a vision I saw after a nap. I was day drinking with my son in law, but dammit the vision felt real. I'm feeling pretty good. My eldest daughter is having a boy and is naming him Jett. I had mentioned it in a previous post when she was two months pregnant and was thinking about it. I asked her to drop the second T, but she told me no, and insisted that is as far as this negotiation is gonna go. Well I hope this is good karma for the season, and especially for this week. I'm excited and I'm blessed regardless.

    Lets go Jets

Regardless of its source, if a slogan catches on it's because the players bought into it. If they don't, it quickly fades into the bin of obscurity and forgotten. FWIW, I think "All gas, no brakes" does describe the pace and energy that Saleh is pushing his players to adopt. You can see it in the effort shown so far. Not so much last year, but more this year, and that's due to having players that can play at that pace and perhaps more open to being influenced by a slogan because of their youth.

But again, if they don't live up to it on the field, it can become a term of derision.

You can see it in last year as well. Despite all the injuries and having pretty much no one left to play at the end of the year they still came out playing hard every single game. Against the Jags they had to pick people up off the street because Covid decimated the Jets. They found a way to win with almost no starting players. They almost beat the Bucs with decimated team and with a crippled team with no RBs or Wrs left and a banged up OL they were still within 3 of Buffalo in the last 10 minutes. The Jets played hard all last year and over performed the talent they had on the field. The last 7 games with the exception of the Saints games they played very competitive football despite the horrific amount of injuries. The 2021 Jets could have easily given up and soft played the end of the season making excuses for youth and injuries but they did not. The amount of effort and the fact they were competitive was fairly remarkable and a testament to how hard the team played last year. You can see the same effort this year just with a much more talented and healthy team.

MLF needs to call the game like he does after 3/4 of the way through the third. We would score 30 all the time.

Unless he Is setting everything up.. The important thing Is, he's been on fire In the 2nd half. Especially In the 4th.

I disagree - if slogans catch on it's because the fans like them. I don't need a player who needs a slogan to motivate himself.

They seem to have done pretty well in being motivated today and I doubt last year's "all gas/ no brakes" or the current "all positives" or whatever it is had much to do with it.

I still think Ulbrich is a liability and not really deserving of a head defensive coordinator role. We shall see how he also improves as the season goes on.

Loved the ground and pound in the 2nd half by lafleur

Keep in mind all the run plays and threat of misdirection wears down the defense and sets up those big plays come the 4th quarter. That misdirection sweep to Hall in the 2nd quarter that almost becomes a big play becomes a TD in the 4th quarter.

What's your hot take on the whole "taking receipts" thing?

LaFleur will get noticed by other teams for HC openings if this keeps up.

In that case, I should let you wait much longer but I have things to do - maybe I'll be back later tonight.

Taking names makes sense, I said that weeks ago. I never heard the "taking receipts" thing until then - it makes no sense to me.

Are we now to assume that the Jets are on a roll towards playoff territory or is it okay to continue to "wait and see" before declaring the season an unqualified success?

The defense played inspired football, special teams continued on a roll and Hall had a great day. I think less than a hundred yards in passing won't win many games but they don't ask "Howdja win?" they ask "Didja win?"

You can't setup 3/4 of the game forever

Is that against the rules? Is your opinion the only one that matters? I'm fine that you don't agree with my take, but I see no reason to change it until we hear players saying they could not have won without the "slogan du jour."

    Fair enough.

Hope you enjoyed the win as much as I did.

He is definitely on the HC track. But we likely will need a few playoff runs before that becomes a reality. Zach will have to a lot better games where he takes over games before that becomes a possibility,

He called a very different game than normal this week. There was a LOT more pressure on Rogers, which is saying something because Ulbrich tends to play scared against good QBs. I'll say I'm one of his biggest critics, but I can't fault him for the last three games though.
