I won't lie like I know the whole list of free agents ill check it out free agent time but nobody can deny that we were missing some type of leadership this season we really lost games because of ourselves more than other teams beating us and quite honestly it was a lot on Shotty, remember Rex put the full offense in his hands including discipline. We all know Shotty is a buddy buddy guy so if we didn't have that stand up leadership guy on offense it was a disaster to begin with. The good thing is Sparano is the type of coach that demands accountability from his players and has that discipline we need so even with a Dwayne Bowe type pickup I'm hoping we can keep the diva's in check next season. Just some optimism from a hopeful fan on my part.
Because most of the players on that list are in their final year and they could get a new contract with a lower 2012 cap hit. As for Sanchez, because he counts for 14 mill this year and 8 next year... his contract can be evened out to 11 per year. They could guarantee some of that money to make it more interesting for him, or transforming it in a signing bonus thus lowering the cap hit and having him take the money straight away.
The cap is not doubling in 2 years. It will go up in 2013 when the new TV deal comes in. But the cap is not DOUBLING.
Just a quick intro New poster here I have been a jets fan since the late 80's and have been reading TGG for years and thought it's about time i contribute, this season has left me fucking miserable and as none of my mate's here follow the NFL i need to vent to some people who understand how brutal it is following the jets. I'm a Man City fan as well and it blows following them as they have been shite for thirty odd years like the jets. I know what you guys are going through with giant fans as we constantly battle Man u fans year in year out only thing is we don't have to wait four years to get another pop at slapping them. Anyway i think the jets will bounce back in 12 with a couple of upgrades at OLB and WR and i'm sure this bit of carried over cap space will help when free agency rolls round, and no matter what i bleed green and in some sick way i think we are all junkies to the depression the jets cause us. It's good to know you guys can relate to how gutted i am at this season as nobody here gives a rat's ass. looking forward to contributing to some heated debates and lets hope this 42 years of grief ends in 12
This really doesn't mean much. People are already taking this into account when they say we have no money to sign FA until we restructure or cut guys. Without this we would be over the cap, this covers that and most to all of our rookie deals. After that we are at the cap. The real question is who is willing to restructure, Sanchez is basically a must to guarantee more in a spread over this and next year to decrease this years cap number.Harris and Revis make sense as well. Cro, Santonio and Pace don't. Scott maybe but it would mean guaranteeing him another year.
I really hope we don't make any big splashes (except Carl Nicks, boy would I like having him on this team). This year it's all about the draft and getting some solid role players at FS, OL, TE & RB. And also a decent backup QB like Shaun Hill.
Thank god this team has great fans like you who know useless information such as this. Where would we be with out condescending posts like this one. My only guess would be I would be more willing to wear my Jets jersey in public because then I wouldn't autonomically associated with "fans" such as your self!
Cutting Sanchez, etc. helps our salary cap situation. They would take a pay cut to avoid getting cut outright (unless they want out and think they could do better elsewhere). Other players like Santonio Holmes and Bart Scott would cost us more against the cap if we cut them, so asking them to take a pay cut would only get you the middle finger in return.
This is an excellent point. While on one hand there are a number of positions that require attention, other than perhaps the #2 wr position, and perhaps ROLB, the Jets' need is really for solid role players, not super stars. I say ROLB because that position needs upgrading anyway with Thomas likely leaving, and if they can it sure would be nice to get a top shelf LB in there, and on #2 wideout, the better that person the better it will be for Holmes and the others. But even at #2 wr an upgrade should be possible with a solid player. I still think the one obvious position that really needs a substantial upgrade is the Qb. Even a player like Orton would require some money to get him to NY. But... I recognize the Jet FO has their own internal reasons for not making a move like taht. Oh well...
The Jets are going to be up against the cap next season. Guaranteeing contracts this year kind of also guaranteed that there would be issues next season. Asomugha. That's a name that is going to haunt the Jets for the next few seasons. Management did some really stupid things in the week that they thought they might get him.
Probably no one they don't want to cut. They'll probably move some money around to future years to create cap space. Then they'll sign contracts that are back loaded creating the same problem in the near future. The only saving grace is the new TV money expected in the '14 cap, but knowing Tanny that could be tied up before the end of '12.
This, its time to cut the crap and creating a team from FA. We need to build our team with the draft and stop trading away picks. We need to get the youngest possible talent that has yet to hit their primes instead of players past their primes
Do you guys really think free agents are going to assess our quarterback situation and want to play for he Jets?
That new TV money is going to be apparently off the charts. Its expect to raise the cap to over 200 million, close to 250 million ive read. Im sure its going to be a strange transition when that happens because the guys who are free agents at that time will make a lot more money than guys that are already signed. It will suck for Gms because double the cap, then the contracts will be twice the size to...
