1,00 yard runners and playmakers are different things. reggie is the type of player that should be a threat on every play whether it's running or catching it. defenses will have to prepare for him and it opens up the passing game making the players around him better. Last year Cedric Houston did well behind a patchwork OL, now the OL is better(and will continue to be addressed in the draft and beyond) and we could have a dynamic playmaker on O something we haven't had in a LONG time. As great as Curtis was he was never a gamebreaker, as great as Key was for us he was never a gamebreaker, If Moss was healthy he could have been that player.
Playmakers only make plays if the big guys in front give them the opportunity to do so. The list of highly drafted can't miss QBs and RBs drafted early who busted because they were on bad teams is loooooong. The Jets are a bad team, particularly on the OL. Bush won't make plays unless and until the Jets patch up the line. Let's assume the best and Bush is the next Barry Sanders. How many playoff games did the Lions win with their OL and Sanders? Compare that to Denver and Pittsburgh and NE, who don't have that one great player but win and win and win with team play. And Brady doesn't count - he fell in the Patriots lap and nobody would have predicted his career and growth, even after 2001.
Again we can make that argument for any position. How well did Couch, Smith, leaf, etc. turn out? What about gallery, Williams, etc...? Remember Elway didn't win a Sb until he got TD and den hasn't done much since TD got hurt the following year. They have 1,000 yd backs every year but they don't have scary playesr like TD was and Bush can be a scary player for opponents. Like I said I'm not usually for a move like this but I am this time as long as we don't go overboard w/ giving up picks.
That's why I'm on the fence here. I'm not against the move, just don't think it's the slam-dunk, no brainer move that people make it out to be.
Doesn't make a difference to me, my point is that SD got just as much talent if not more by trading down and while Vick has shown flashes he hasn't been enough to get the Falcons over the hump.
True though I go back to my Barry Sanders example I've used in other posts. How many rings did he bring Detroit? He was amazing to watch and I'd love to have him on my team though without a surrounding cast one player isn't enough.
but in SD case they ended up with LT and brees. We could end up with bush and Croyle if the deal is the 2 1st and a 3rd
It would be more of a slam dunk in the off-the-field-department than it would be on the field, at least in the first year. I want Reggie, no doubt. But he's not going to lead us to the SB in year one. But imagine what it would do to merchandise sales, ticket sales, FA's wanting to come here, etc... He would provide more excitement than we can imagine for this franchise.
your right on the money. as we can see with all the FA's passing on this year we need some kinda atraction. D brickashaw ferguson isnt attracting any Free agents.
And this is the icing on the cake- WE KNOW BUSH WOULD LOVE TO PLAY HERE!!! No long holdout, no bitching and moaning, etc... He would fit like a glove- Curtis Martin (1st Ballot HOF RB) showing him the ropes!!! You would have half of Cali running around in Green and White #5 Jerseys...
Paolantonio just said that Tannenbaum claims they haven't even called New Orleans. I hope that's a blatant lie.
