Faneca has had a rep as being a bulldozer in the run game and a turnstile in pass protection that has slowly been building over the last 3 seasons. My brother-in-law the Steelers fan told me that D'Brick and Mangold would have to have great seasons to keep the Jet's QB's upright. He was mostly right.
Judging by those stats, shouldent Jason Peters like........go to training camp on time for once? Seriously, how did he get into the pro bowl with THOSE type of numbers?
That?s actually pretty good. Props to Callahan. And I feel that most of those were during the first 4-5 games. They were really disciplined down the stretch. btw, I still don?t get how a C can get called for Fallstart. I wasn?t too surprised, that he got in, if a OL once has the Probowl-Label, they get in time and time again, because, the average fan just doesn?t really focus on the OL and just vote the same guys every year. What really shocked me, ist that he?s also a All-Pro. I saw 5 Billsgames this year, and in everyone of them, I thought at least once "WTF happend to Peters?". How he?s votet All-Pro by guys who are supposed to know their stuff ist completely beyond me.
Faneca was only about one hunderd times better then the previous hole at left guard at pass blocking though. He was a huge upgrade on that side of the line and a monster in the run game. His pass blocking was always the weaker side of his game. Its still money well spend to stablize the O-line. Now we need to add goood depth to the line to keep things looking up for the future.
moore was also converted from a DT. so i always found it funny he gets such a bum rap for being a completely solid player. not you but generally on this site people bitched up a storm and pinned the OL woes on Moore in the past. which i never got. hes that player that grades out to a B and you keep on your roster. solid as hell, not great. always consistent. not expensive.
Overall pretty good stats. Faneca struggled at time in pass coverage but he improved the overall line drastically. The line is good and they should plan on drafting a lineman every year or so in the mid rounds to develop so it's never a weakness. The best lines are built over 3 or 4 years with mid round draft picks.
He can move the ball pre-snap once the line man are set... I thought the O-line was tremendously improved this year, but that would have been easy to do, given the putrid performance the year before. That said, as far as pass protection goes, if we were in 4 wide, keller up, shot gun, with receivers essentially running the same 3 routes ONE more time, I was gonna puke. I think a number of the sacks given up, especially late, were on the "well, he's having fun out there", "for the love of the game" QB, who held the ball for a week to a week and half "waiting" for something to break downfield, and NEVER dumping the ball to a back or 3rd option.
