There's no reason not to have interest at this point. There are alot of question marks aside from his character that need to be addressed first but if he passes all those I for one would be interested in signing him. One of the best things about having Rex Ryan in control is I don't have a fear of taking a chance on players with a questionable past. I think Rex will have enough control of the team and respect from them to get a guy like Burress to focus on football.
Seems like every time I listen to WFAN I have to listen to the celebrity guest tell me that Plax is a great guy whose made mistakes. I know about the mistakes, why is he a great guy? Where are the stories of him donating money to the poor, jumping into a river to save a stranger, helping a friend out, etc. I think "defining deviancy down" has taken over sports media.
Yea, this stuff from the article about his traffic stop doesnt make him sound like a 'great guy': DAVIE - Former New York Giants football player Plaxico Burress has until April 21 to respond to a traffic ticket he received from a Broward sheriff's deputy who says the NFL player cursed at him several times. The traffic stop occurred March 18 at about 10:30 a.m., when the deputy saw Burress driving west on Interstate 595 in his black Toyota Sequoia, cutting off other drivers, sheriff's spokeswoman Dani Moschella said. Deputy Donald Harris, who was in an unmarked car, pulled him over near the U.S. 441 exit. When Harris opened a back door to order the driver out, Burress, who was talking on a cell phone, told the deputy, 'You can't do that. F--- you,'" Moschella said. Burress hurled the expletive at Harris after each command during the 10-minute stop, she said. The football player, who has a Lighthouse Point home, also claimed to know Sheriff Al Lamberti personally, Moschella said. "[He] cooperated with the deputy's commands, but he remained hostile throughout the stop," Moschella said. "He threatened the deputy, saying, 'You're gonna be in trouble, I know the sheriff.'" Unfazed, Harris handed Burress a ticket charging careless driving, with some advice. "The deputy said, 'Do me a favor and just slow down,'" Moschella said. "And Mr. Burress responded, 'F--- you.'" Lamberti, a former New Yorker who grew up a Jets fan, said through an agency spokesman that he does not know Burress. The March 18 ticket is the latest in a trail of traffic citations spanning at least five states on the East Coast, according to Florida motor vehicle records. Earlier in March, another Broward deputy pulled over Burress on suspicion of aggressive driving in Pompano Beach, citing him on speeding and other charges.
I think that after a year in jail Burress will have an improved appreciation for life in the NFL. In 2010 the Jets will be just one of many teams to be interested in signing him. I really doubt that he ends up back in NY. I mean really, after shooting yourself in the weener at a night club you're going to want to change cities when you get back. Definitely look for Burress to go out West somewhere that fans don't care so much about their players.
