Actually, most of what I have read on Russell is he is inconsistent. He looks great on one play and pedestrian on the next.

Not really but I'm sure I read a lot more Raider coverage than you (I hope).

The fact is that one side (you) needs to except that Jenkins at 359 is his playing weight for our NT. He is not overweight anymore. Accept it, he's where the Jets want him.

I will accept that there are young top 5 picks that may turn out to be good players for the Raiders.

Sorry to hear about Walker. Dude wants to quit on your team. That must suck.

And you have to accept that not only isn't Russell 300 pounds; he's not overweight either. He is a 6' 6" man with a huge frame who weighs in the mid 260's. He played over 280 in college, and at that weight Mike Mayock called him, "the most talented quarterback I've ever seen coming out of college, better than Elway, better than Marino." At his current weight he has better mobility than many smaller quarterbacks, including anybody the Jets have. Accept it, he's where the Raiders want him.

Sorry to hear you have another guy in Baker who is unhappy and calling your front office "liars". That seems to happen every year, must suck. Especially when you're 4-12 (that's a nice glass house you live in there).

I only attack Russell when he was overweight. Now that he's back to where he is, whatever.

Baker is ready to be a team player and get back on the field. I guess the Jets philosophy works. Some people get the message.

    Quote:
    Setting the Scene

Raiders' training camp is located in Napa Valley in the center of wine country. The Napa Valley Marriott houses the Raiders during camp, and the practice fields are on the backside of the hotel adjacent to a middle school. The weather is absolutely beautiful with temperatures in rising into the 80's without a cloud in sight. The camp is closed to the public, but the camp is full of players' loved ones as the team host Family Day during the evening session.
    Observations

    1. JaMarcus Russell is growing up. The Raiders' franchise quarterback has made significant strides as a passer, and his burgeoning confidence is reflected in the improved accuracy he has displayed throughout this camp. Instead of attempting to force throws into tight windows as he did a season ago, Russell is quickly identifying the second or third option in the route progression, and his willingness to take check down shows that he has a better grasp of the offense. "The more reps that I get, the more comfortable that I become in the offense," said Russell.

Young quarterbacks often underestimate the importance of keeping the offense in manageable situations, so Russell's increased reliance on his underneath receivers shows that he is beginning to mature into better decision maker in the pocket. Though offensive coordinator Greg Knapp will surely unleash more deep balls this season to take advantage of Russell's extraordinary arm strength, the Raiders' offense has a chance become more balanced due to their young signal caller's growth.

In addition, Russell has grown into the role of being a team leader. After missing most of training camp last season, Russell spent the offseason earning the respect of his teammates by diligently working in the weight room and film room. "I've been trying to show my teammates that I'm committed," said Russell. "We worked together all offseason, and I think that by being around every day I've been able to earn the respect of my guys."

Again you missed the point and the thread. This thread(not started by me-moderator) is about jamarcus Russell. There is no Qb in the NFL( Peyton manning, C Palmer and Tom Brady) has the ability this KId possesses. Jamarcus Russell will be as good as he wants to be. The worry you have giving so much money to a player is they might be satisfied and not put in the work needed to be a top QB. That has not been the case with Russell as the article demonstrates he has put in alot of time learning this offense. The guy wants to be the best. Jamarcus Russelll going to have his good days and his bad days. (life with any young QB) What going to help tremendously in Russell development is that running game for him to lean on. IN two years as Raiders tackles improve in pass protection Jamarcus Russell should be able to take over games by himself.

Oakland Raider News: Raiders practice with the San Francisco 49ers and guage progress

    Feeling the heat

The Raiders offensive line spent a good deal of time befuddled by the Niners? 3-4 defense. This does not bode well, because the Raiders face Shawne Merriman and the Chargers? 3-4 defense twice a year. Hopefully, facing the Niners? version of this style of defense will help prepare them for the Bolts? onslaught come the regular season.

A Raider offensive line befuddled?? NO, not them. How many penalties did they commit in this practice.

Its about Russell's elbow. Not his progression. That goes in your news thread.

I didn't see the game. I do know, though, that you're overstating things.

"WOw"? What is that? The less emphatic version of "WOW"?

On the down side, Ronald Curry was the only starting wide receiver who looked like he showed up to play. The much maligned Javon Walker had two drops and no receptions. Drew Carter also looked unimpressive.

The run defense was a mixed bag, it seemed the Raiders would be getting on track in keeping the Titans running backs at bay, only to follow that up by giving up a run of 10 or more yards. It seemed like counter plays were giving the Raiders fits, which means that gap discipline is lacking. The backers are not staying home to cut off the cut back lanes.

Johnnie Lee Higgins looked lost in both the receiving and passing games. His key play was fielding a punt at the six and fumbling in his own end zone, where the ball was recovered for the Titans? first points. He also looked awful as a receiver. His only highlight was an eight yard carry on an end around, but he seemed to lack the speed that he was touted for.

No Raiders first srting run defense was pretty good i thought. Raiders second and third string defense for the most part stopped the run, but did give up some big plays. C

Chaz Schilens 6'4 225 sub 4.4 44 inch vertical was very impressive as a WR.

Im not a big Johnnie Lee higgins fan either. Just due to injury Tyvon Branch (broken hand) and some other players being injured they pretty much are forced to stay nwith higgins.
