As always it depends on who else is still on the board but I wouldn't scoff at the pick. I agree we need playmakers on offense.
I want my boy Deanthony Thomas! Super fast and super elusive! Great hands can even shift to the slot WR spot if geno see's a mismatch. Returns Kicks Punts and the whole 9. Dude got Darren Sproles written all over him! And LAWDDD knows this offense/special teams needs that kinda playmaker! He's kinda small though but he actually uses that to his advantage. Hopefully he's available in the 3rd 4th round i think somebody will jump for him though
Gotta grab the Black Mamba if he's still there in the 4th. I wouldn't take him any higher as too many other areas to address. Durability and lack of size are the two big question marks with DT. Also there are already 19 junior RB's who have declared for the draft. So the Jets will have a lot of options to take a flyer on in the late rounds.
Jeremy Hill declared. Running back class git a huge lift. He'll probably be the lone running back taken in the first round.
I don't think any team touches him in the first or second. Too many off field red flags to go around. Punching a man while already on probation is just plain dumb. He is a good power runner, but with the devaluation of the position and his problems I see him as a solid third round pick.
He has off the field issues, but his issues do not outweigh his talent. I'll be surprised if he doesn't go first round, early second at the latest. He reminds me a lot of Chris Ivory, but with above average hands. I don't think there is a RB even close to him in the draft right now as far as every-down, carry the load type guys go.
I personally dont think any RB will be taken in the first this year. Compared to last year, I think Gio and Lacy are more talented than any RB in this class (and they werent first round picks).
Really? Ya think? I was impressed with how Mason played this season, but I think teams will be scared off by the system he played in. I think Carey will go before Mason does.
If they are looking RB in the 4th, I think Terrance West out of Towson is someone they need to look at. I don't think Thomas is going to be there in the 4th.
http://http://www.ganggreennation.com/2014/1/17/5319944/scouting-the-draft-dri-archer-rb-kent-state This is the guy we need, an offensive weapon type, a receiver caliber RB, with some special teams prowess to boot. a lot of value in one pick.
Ahead of Ka'Deem Carey and Tre Mason? I'd be shocked. I don't think Hyde is even in the same area code as those two. I wouldn't consider Hyde before the 4th round.
Holy Toledo!!! Thanks for posting this. I'd been wanting to see some film of him after reading all the positive comments here about him. Granted, it's a highlight tape and they always make the player look good, but his speed, moves, balance and hands just jump off the screen. I can't believe how he can accelerate and run right between would be tacklers. I want to see some game film rather than just highlights, but based on his speed and versatility alone, I'd love for the Jets to draft him. I don't know where he'll wind up being ranked, but if he does as well at the Combine as I suspect he will, someone will probably overdraft him because of his speed and playmaking ability.
I wouldn't mind the jets being that team who over drafts him honestly... in the second anyhow. (a third round pick for him is probably perfect.) he just seems like everything the jets have been looking for in terms of backfield value. he's quickly become a favorite of mine, really pulling for him to be in green white come september.
West is a beast and he had some huge FCS playoff games after a great regular season. He's got prototypical size for an NFL RB. If he has a good combine, I think he'll be gone by the end of the 3rd. I wouldn't mind the Jets taking a look at him at all.
Damn straight! You NEVER pick a RB in the second round. Those picks are for projects and reaches.... Sorry, couldnt resist....
Ivory and Powell are fine. If Goodson can get his ducks in a row, I wouldn't mind having him back. The Jets could use a kick/punt returner that can fill in at RB or maybe WR. I'd love it if they got Dexter McCluster, but I'm sure there are plenty of guys in the 5th or later that can fill that description as well.
No need to pick a running back in the first 4 rounds... We have Ivory and Powell and Goodson coming back. Ivory is better then all these backs on the draft. If MM would get his play calling together, Ivory would be a Top 5 back. This offense needs to be centered around him.
Hey guys, some good discussion here. Here's my take on some of the RBs: Ka'Deem Carey, Arizona: I don't like him nearly as much as he's been talked up. He needs a lot of help at the line of scrimmage to do anything. If he gets the ball in the open field he can beat people with power and moves. He doesn't show an ability to find the small holes. Doesn't always make good decisions behind the LOS. In a lot of ways, he reminds me of Trent Richardson, for good and for bad. I don't know that his game translates well to the NFL. Tre Mason, Auburn: Mason is the real deal. He combines good speed and decision making with the ball (when to follow the play, when to bail and where) with good tackle-breaking ability. Finishes runs well. I'd take him in the second. Bishop Sankey, Washington: Good balance, good vision, good speed, decent power, decent receiver. I like Sankey a lot. He doesn't have a trait that I see that would make him a special back, but he is a high quality back and I'd also be ok with a 2nd round pick on him. Lache Seastrunk, Baylor: Like him a lot as well. He can slip through small holes at the LOS and has breakaway speed and good balance. Carlos Hyde, Ohio State: I struggle to assess him because I'm a Buckeye fan. He is a real load but he had really a monster line to run behind. Personally I have trouble being objective on him so I'll stay away from it. Terrance West, Towson: Really good patience and knows when to cut. Good change-of-direction. He doesn't make the highlight, ankle-breaking circus moves but his cuts are smart and optimal. Good speed at the FCS level. Will be interesting to see how that translates against better competition. Andre Williams, Boston College: Plodder. Takes what the OL gives him. I wouldn't touch him. Antonio Andrews, Western Kentucky: Do-it-all type. He was the focus of WKU's offense the last two years. 2012 he led the FBS in yards from scrimmage. Was top 5 again this year. Threat running and catching the ball. Will be interesting to see him this week at the senior bowl. I haven't gotten to see him yet so I can't say if I like him or not but I will watch him this week with the SB coverage. De'Anthony Thomas, Oregon: I'm sorry, the guy is a 165 pound running back and it's not even clear he was the best RB on the team. He makes some special cuts but overall they were more effective with Tyner and Marshall in there anyways. I wouldn't draft him. I'm not saying he's a bad player, and he plays with real toughness (you have to to play RB at that size) but I think there are just some physical limitations there. Sproles is the guy people always point to for undersized RBs but he's like 185-190. Storm Johnson, Central Florida: I just do't like him. Wanted to like him, but I saw him fumble 4 times in 3 games. He's a huge target but doesn't avoid tacklers like Hyde. Much broader than he is strong. Doesn't have real good moves. Adam Muema, San Diego State: Really nimble feet, finds small holes, turns upfield and makes good moves. Has kind of a weird body type for a running back, I'd like to see some more upper-body strength, but I like him later in the draft. Branden Oliver, Buffalo: Mighty mouse, MJD-type. Decent receiver and quick cuts. Good power for a small guy. Saw three Buffalo games this year... really liked him after the first one but wasn't as impressive in the next two. If my team spent a 6th or 7th on him I'd be cool with that. Would be very excited to add him as a UDFA. JMO of course.
