The JETS need PLAYMAKERS everywhere on offense. If they sign enough guys through free agency I can see them drafting either Carey or Sankey in the second round if either of them is still on the board. Ivory is always a hamstring away from missing playing time, Powell is alright but not great, and Goodson is coming back from an injury. The JETS need a running back but getting WRs comes first.
Johnson looks alright. He would be a good pick, I guess. Taking a RB before round 5 is dicey. Too many good ones get drafted late or not at all. See Zac Stacy, Priest Holmes, Arian Foster, Alfred Morris, Chris Ivory, Andre Brown (not that Brown will ever be confused with Jim Brown, mind you, but he can start in the NFL), etc. Based on fungibility and salary cap issues, I would never want the Jets to draft a RB before round 3 anymore. Even taking one in round 3 is questionable. Ideally, the Jets would have a committee each year of three backs who can be effective when called upon to run. At least two of them should be able to play on 3rd down (meaning they can catch and pick up a blitz).
If MM handed Ivory the ball more, he is easily a top 6 running back in this league... Powell is very underrated, and if Goodson comes back next year to his 2011 self, the 3 of them will be a serious problem to opposing defenses.
RB is not the most pressing need the jets have (WR,TE,SS,OLB,OG even QB outweigh it right now) bt that doesn't mean they don't have a type of need in it. Ivory is their power back, he breaks tackles with reckless abandon. Powell is the jack of all trades master of none type, a great backup thats put up great numbers on the ground a couple of times, and is decent at catching. what we need is another pass catching weapon to exploit in the backfield, Goodson might suffice but hey if ones there and is the best talent we should go for it. another consideration: getting a RB/KR/PR. The jets need a true returning option, why not a rookie?
Anyone who wants to use a pick on a RB on Thursday (Round 1) or Friday (Rounds 2 & 3) is out of their mind. In my Mock, I used a late pick on Adam Muema, a good value for a underrated back.
Sorry but no to a running back on the first four rounds at least. That is probably the second strongest position we have, behind the D line. We just have way too many other needs.
Whoa..no mention of Dri Archer? That guy is just as lethal as Tayvon Austin was coming out..just w/ a lousy surrounding cast & in more of an RB form. He'll run at least 4.4 has explosion, acceleration & can catch. DEADLY in the open field. He's only 5'8 200 which is why he'll be around in late first-early second..but he'd bring a bigtime lift to this team as both a returner & a RB.
He'll be a great slot receiver which is what he is a slot receiver. This thread is for running backs.
70 times for a running back is what 3 or 4 games? He doesn't have the body for running back in college let alone NFL he'll be a great return guy and slot receiver and I'd love for us to grab him but I'd also like a true running back that can catch.
No you aren't gonna hand him the ball 20 times a game..I agree w/ you there. But the Jets already have 2 pounders in Ivory & Powell. Archer would compliment both of guys as a change of pace/Receiving RB/ Returner. He'd essentially fill the spot Leon Washington once did..or what Mike Goodson was supposed to be.
Out of every position on the offensive side of the ball for the Jets, RB has to be the lowest priority. Every other position is either lacking depth or talent, the Jets are fine at RB with the combo of Ivory-Powell-Goodson
that's stupid, we needed Winters to fill a hole, not have a guy sitting on the bench rehabbing all year.
What are your thoughts on Charles Sims from WVU? He's a great pass catcher, has good vision, and is an effective pass blocker. I could see him still being around in the 4th round.
I honestly wouldn't mind drafting one of Carey, Seastrunk, or Sankey if they fall to one of our 3rd round picks.
IMO he's one of the best all around backs entering. Hyde and Williams are power backs, Thomas is a scat back. He can do it all might make it to 3rd round but probably not. Actually seen some places late first round but I don't see that happening.
Winters blows. Ducasse wasn't much worse, in fact he was actually a better player outside of penalties. I'm SURE they could have found someone at Winters level elsewhere.
It took Ducasse 4 years to get to that level of play. Winter was a rookie tackle making the switch to guard. His play, like both Milliner and Smith, seemed to peak in the final month. He is by no means great right now, but if he continues to improve he will be a very nice addition.
