Down by double digit, with the clock ticking down in the 4th quarter - and you are running the football? Now that's sheer genius I see.
I honestly don't mind the idea of the jets opening up the passing game. Hell, I'll be downright pleased if we're a 50/50 ration and start incorporating all of the receiving options into the passing game. However, they're not off to a good start of implementing that. As you said, it's not a good idea to start drawing too many conclusions off of the first game of the season. Still I think that most will agree that there were way too many mistakes in the game plan we never ever want to see again. And it's not all Schottenheimer, either. Sanchez was getting way too jittery out there early on. That's one of the reasons I want to see the Jets commit to the run more, even if it doesn't work perfectly right out of the gates. All things being equal, if the Jets drop behind running the ball or passing the ball, I'd rather see the defense get a few more moments rest before having to go back out there.
That's not what he meant and you know that. Stop trolling. The Jets had 15 total called runs all game. That was a problem that could have been addressed early in the game.
Hey, you don't have to convince me that we should not be abandoning the running game. It's the perfect compliment to our defense, and, truth be told, I don't think Sanchez is an accurate enough passer to be throwing it 45 times a game. I really don't. I know people on this message board have delusions of grandeur involving Sanchez becoming Tom Brady . . . I just don't see it. Mark is an elusive, extremely mobile, big-armed quarterback with a knack for making big plays. He's doesn't have the surgeon-like precision or accuracy of a Peyton Manning or Tom Brady and I really think it's silly to expect him to develop it. It's not in his DNA. He's the PERFECT (almost prototypical) QB to work primarily off of play-action.
