Go ahead and give me a list of all the QBs who came out of a college spread offense and became successful NFL FQBs.
They probably won't, but if they don't, they'll be making a major mistake and will be very sorry. You heard it here first!
I've been thinking about it LOGICALLY it makes no sense for Barkley to go in the top two. If the Giants aren't gonna take one of the QBs they'll trade down with someone who will just like the Colts did. Those high picks this year are golden worth a king's ransom for a GM to take a position other than QB up there is a terrible job anyway ya slice it. Someone is gonna pass up a king's ransom of draft picks to take a RB in 2018? Cleveland 1 - QB Giants 2 - QB or a trade down Jets 3 - QB Cleveland 4 - Barkley That's how I see it going down.
From what I've been reading it sounds like he has a lot of Brett Favre in him. I loved Brett. The Jets have already shown balls of steel by trading up. Don't play it safe now if they think he's the best QB to take up there go for it.
lots of people share that view, plus we can't ignore history of QB sucess in the NFL you don't understand bias clearly, I could call you biased for him. in the end it really makes no sense. he's one of 200+ prospects coming into the NFL there is no reason to be biased towards or against any of them. all we can do is take out bets guesses, same way the NFL GMs are. I also never said he was "talentless" anyone who has a chance to be drafted into the NFL has a degree of talent. Mayfield doens't have top 3 pick talent (and not a single analyst anywhere lists him as a top 3 talent) whoever the jets get i'll root for, my mind isn't going to change based on people on the forum. what would change my mind is seeing him show more then he did, and that time is passed. all the film is out there, nothing on that film looks like a top 3 pick, nothing on that film guarantees him being successful, nothing historically in the NFL goes his way. yes it is all a gamble, but mayfield is a huge one to gamble on with the 3rd overall pick not to mention we gave up essentially 3 extra players to mvoe up and get him if that's the case. luckily i don't see mayfield being a guy mac likes. My bets hope is the browns take allen and the giants take barkely and darnold falls into out lap.
I agree with your point regarding 2nd round picks. You know as well as I do however, that Jets don't have QBs fall into their laps. They may have had DL and Ss fall into their laps, but never a QB. Due to the importance of the position, and his job supposedly being in peril, Mac couldn't be content to sit at #6 and hope that a QB that he liked fell to him. The very last thing he could do was take Barkley and then try to trade back up for a QB. That would have been a sure-fire way to miss out on the right QB and get himself fired.
we are overrating the QBs in this draft due to need. this site takes the average of 12 different sites big boards and lists the top prospects http://www.nflbigboard.com/ only rosen and darnold are in the top 10. barkley is the consensius bets player in the draft and chubb is the 2nd best. while RB isn't a primire positon, one seems to always go top 5 when they have his talent. gurley, fournette, zeke in recent years. pass rusher is a premiere position and chubb is the best DE/rusher in the draft. everyone predicted the browns would take a QB 1st overall last year, but they chose the best player instead. it's very likely the giants who don't have an immediate need at QB and have a new GM, will take the BPA which would be barkley or chubb.
I want a tough QB dammit. Mind, body and soul. I got so sick of hearing about Sanchez's "fragile psyche" then Geno's etc. New York is a beast not everyone can handle the pressure of playing here.
Ditto for me..Nothing too complicated ..If the Giants trade their pick THAT team will most certainly get a QB I like Josh Rosen a lot ..but my GUT is screaming TAKE BAKER AT 3..If he is available ...guy has a WINNER ATTITUDE AND SOMETHING TO PROVE
Allen might be your guy. Would you settle for tough mind, body, and soul, but with questionable accuracy?
I don't really give a darn what offense they are coming from. They are rookies and will learn whatever system they are brought into. The question is: do they have talent, are they accurate, are they good athletes, have good size, etc, but not what exactly offensive system are you coming out of? This is not something they need to "overcome". If the guy had enough talent to be top 4 NCAA player for 3 years in a row, lead NCAA in QBR for two years, I have confidence he can learn whatever system he needs to learn.
You can have all the confidence you want. I'm not here to change your mind. You should understand spread offenses are pretty far removed from any NFL offense, and there are a lot of simple tasks a spread QB will have to pick up IN ADDITION to all the standard adjustments to the NFL-- things like how to take 3-step, 5-step, and 7-step drops, how to take a snap from under center, and how to go through read progressions. It's not a small obstacle.
Statements like this is what puzzles me. Nothing he did makes him at top 3 pick? He did more than ANYONE in this draft. Anyone. And it's not even close. Three years in a row a top 4 player in NCAA, including #1 last year. Amazing accuracy of 70% for multiple years in a row. Highest QBR for two years in a row. Best QBR under pressure. Just about everything he did is better than anyone else in NCAA. Now, you could say size is the concern that takes him out of top 3, and that's legitimate concern. But if you have SEEN nothing from him to make him top 3 - in spite of him top 3 College player for years, then something is off.
I'm not arguing. I'm trying to find a way to be excited about all top 4 candidates. I figure I need to start getting pumped about our new FQB--time is short!
It seems like Mayfield was born to play in this town but I've been reading the Jets love Allen for months. I don't think they'd take Rosen he's been very critical of President Trump in the past Woody works for the administration.
