Yeah I was thinkin the same thing. Not good to be wrong when you're accusing someone of being an idiot. Kind of makes you look like an idiot.
Agreed, the downside with the conditional is that future draft picks are essentially a lower value. So a 2nd next year is the equivalent of a 3rd this year.
I know that he is better suited for a 4-3 and he is in his prime. I know he is the best MLB available in the NFL. I also know he is the only one that would even be considered worth a draft pick, that very few players go for more than a 2nd round pick and I can't think of any that were coming off a significant injury that got more than a 2nd round pick. So right there the absolute best I can imagine is a 2nd round pick. After that you have to consider his price tag and being in the final year of his contract. That alone is enough to bump it down to a third because the type of injury Vilma has is not one that a team will work out a long term contract worth any money and the player is not going to sign a long term contract that isn't worth a lot of money when he has the potential to be a pro bowl player in his prime. A 4th with a conditional 3rd would be a very similar deal that Mickey Loomis negotiated when trading Stallworth to the Eagles, Loomis also traded two 4th round picks to move up in the draft. Loomis has consistently dealt 4th round picks. If Vilma comes back and doesn't perform then the Jets basically get a 4th round pick for a player that is defective. If he can regain his form then the Jets get a 3rd round pick for a disgruntled player that wouldn't have been there the following year anyway. It just makes sense for both sides. I didn't devalue Vilma, I would love to have him and even said he is worth a 1st round pick IF he can return to the player he was the first two years in the league. Are you expecting a 2nd or 1st round pick for Vilma?
NFL Live on espn is on at 12EDT, or 50 minutes from now, so they may have some details on at that point....
I think he was referencing the fact that we were considering dealing Vilma to the Lions, and that the Saints supposedly are the frontrunners now with the better offer.
We need another linebacker now. It would have been interesting to see Vilma play alongside Jenkins if that trade goes through too.
conditional pick would suck -- be nice to get a 3rd - take that third and give it over for jenks -- basically trade vilma for jenks
If it was a conditional pick in which the third can become a second, i guess that would mean that we would be getting a 2009 pick, which is, according to the draft pick value board, equivalent to one round worse a year ahead.
Means Sportscenter has the exclusive rights to the negotiations between the GMs. What do you think it means?
Well, my wife always told me I was an idiot. I guess I'm the idiot. Damn never wanted to believe she was right.
