Well I know this doesn't sit well with your "no team will trade more than a 4th for Sam" narrative. Looks like you were wrong twice on this one.

I totally agree with you one this. But as far as 'red flags', I guess JD saw some of the same ones we see and wanted to get close and personal before pulling the trigger.

Because of some report from anonymous league sources?

You should just go buy a Darnold Panthers jersey and go root for them. Replace the poster you have of him in a Jets uniform with one in his new one

Even though the second rounder is next year, the Panthers still gave up more then I was expecting for Sam. So maybe his value to some of these QB desperate teams was higher then we knew. I don't doubt Gase being their excuse why Sam struggled - and they may be right about that. I wouldn't be shocked if Sam Tannahilled it up in Carolina.

I can't believe it was a straight up swap of Darnold for the #12. If so, Douglas has fallen drastically in my estimation. Also, if Douglas was that concerned about Wilson's shoulder that he didn't want to give up Darnold in case the shoulder was that bad, why is he considering Wilson at all?

This report doesn't jibe with everything else I've seen/heard.

This is exactly what I thought JD was gonna do...keep Sam in his back pocket so he could trade down, accumulate picks, then take 'one of them'. Apparently JD figured it was Trevor or Zack, and nothing else much behind them. He decided to trade Sam and go with ZW, but needed to make sure his new prize rookie QB didn't spend the first year on season ending IR for throwing shoulder surgery. Or so it seems....

I would be surprised if he didn't. At the very least, he will be a solid QB for the Panthers. That is what he was for the Jets in 2018-2019.

Then in 2020, he started with a brutal schedule against the Bills, 49ers, and Colts. Week 4 got his shoulder messed up on TNF, and the rest is history. He is not nearly as bad as some people feel. I think intelligent franchises were able to see that, and were willing to give up some draft capital to give him a chance.

I just think if the 49ers were really in on Darnold, they would have waited to acquire him. They executed the trade on Wilson's Pro Day. If they wanted Sam instead, they could have had him plus kept 2 of their future 1st round picks, which leads me to believe they did not really want him.

Ya I get it, why didn't they just wait another week or two if they really wanted Sam. I figure there's a lot of moving parts in these back room trades. For example, there were probably many teams calling the Fish for their #3 pick, with 9ers being just one of them. They may have been forced (by Miami) to make up their minds before they wanted to. If they had said 'no' to Miami who then trades the 3 to some other team, and then the Jets decide to stick with Sam, they'd have been screwed to a degree. They could try to trade up with some other team lower down, but they may have already tried that. Who knows all the gears and wheels that are spinning behind the scenes?

Instead of waiting a day the 9ers gave up the farm to move up? It makes zero sense not just for the Jets but the 9ers.

Forget how stupid San Fran would have been but think about how stupid Joe Douglas would need to be.

Based on this apparent "report", the reason for the hesitation from Douglas was because of Zach Wilsons shoulder health. So you're telling me Douglas passed on potentially getting rid of Darnold, having the #2 pick, the #12 pick, and the #23 pick just because he was not sure about Zach Wilsons shoulder?! LMAO

Get the fuck out of here. If it looks like shit and it smells like shit....

Well, it sounds like they believe an unknown rookie gives them a better chance to succeed going forward than Sam did so I'm not sure I agree with your assessment.

Easy on the victory lap. Wasn't there a time you claimed Sam would be traded for two 1st rounders? That's way more off base than claiming he'd get traded for a 4th.

That's two sources disputing this claim now.

Yeah, great point. I did not even think of it from the Jets' side. Total BS report.
