Why's that? Look at our depth at WR. Marshall (proven 1,000 Yard receiver) Decker ( same) Kerley (solid at #3) On other hand, Coples hasn't really been adept at rushing passer and Paces best years are behind him. Unless Reilly and IK are ready to step up, it's definitely a bigger need.
Marshall is not a long term solution and without him we are back to the receiving corps we had last year. You just cannot continuously invest all resources into defense, especially since with Williams yesterday and FA we have elite talent on D. We need to get balance and start building our offense. One move to get a 31 year old receiver, and one for depth at guard does not do that. We need playmakers. Way more important than filling the last slight weakness of a defense that can already dominate. I just guess our long line of defensive coaches has instilled that thought in some fans to always fix the defense, ignore the offense and then crucify the QB when he struggles without any talent on offense. Seems silly to me.
F Coples--he's toast after this season. Unless we can trade him for a bag of cheetos and a conditional pick. Sorry if I'm being rude to him.
3) Randy Gregory, OLB, Nebraska Vitals: 6-4 7/8, 235 pounds, 4.64 40. Gregory likely slipped because of off-the-field questions he was facing coming into the draft, but without a doubt, he's the best pass-rusher left. In addition to the aforementioned issues, some were concerned Gregory might not be able to gain enough weight to play the position, but I think if he gets on a good diet, he could put on 10 to 15 pounds and be a pretty good player. 4) Landon Collins, S, Alabama Vitals: 6-0, 228 pounds, 4.53 40. Collins ran a lot faster than anyone thought he would, but he also had trouble against some of the bigger receivers he faced, and that's probably why Damarious Randall leapfrogged him into the first round. Collins is just too good a football player -- as anyone who starts for two years at Alabama would have to be -- to let linger for long. http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap30...aft-jaelen-strong-leads-gems-left-after-day-1 If we get one of these guys, then Mac and Bowles won this draft, hands down. Both of these guys were supposed to be top 15 overall picks, and Gregory could have gone as high as #5 overall, until they slipped for dubious reasons. Drafting one of them is like getting another 1st round pick this year! Fingers crossed!
According to my sources, he can play both free and strong safety. If we get him, we might have a pair of Ed Reed-type impact players at safety. Pryor is expected to make huge strides this year playing his natural position in Bowles' D.
Ed reed comp is hyperbole--but it wouldn't break my heart to take him at 37--ranked high by people I respect
Haha I know what you meant, but when you said "According to my sources" you sounded like Adam Schefter
Yeah a bit of hyperbole, I'll admit, but he at least has a chance to be that kind of impact player. He's a blue chip safety prospect from Alabama a la Clinton-Dix.
with this D-line depth i'm content with taking a pass rusher way later..Leo Williams is a pass rusher! he's nuts, he's not normal, he's a freak. We were 5th in the league in sacks last year and I'm sure it will only improve. Bowles loves to blitz imagine when o-lines are picking their poison trying to figure out who to double on the line and say Pryor just comes flying by on a blitz probably untouched or 1 on 1 vs a RB (that RB is also trying to figure out who to help out block most likely)... mann... this defense.. my expectations are through the roof right now. I want to see the best defense i've ever witnessed in my 24 yr old life.
If you weighed Collins and Gregory right now Collins is prolly heavier, lol. I'll be surprised we draft either one
