    Matt,

We almost never disagree, but how is he low risk? IMO he's anything but a low risk player. Please see my response to DefenseWinsChampionships

I think he meant he's low risk in that if signed after week one he won't cost much and if he doesn't improve his conditioning by the time his suspension if over or shortly after then cut him. The Steelers brought him in for a try out. They don't typically go after or keep problem players so I tend to think there isn't an overriding issue with him, it may have been specific to the Bills or the coaching staff. He's worth a look.

Thanks. If he meant low risk in terms of money, then OK, I can understand and perhaps agree with that, although we don't know what he and/or his agent would want to sign, but in terms of the Jets being able to depend or rely on him, I think he's anything but a low-risk player.

He's low risk potentially high reward for the simple fact we wouldn't be signing him long term. He'll have to earn his way.

He'll simply be on a one year tryout (behind Forte & Powell) and if he doesn't get back to his physical form of his FSU days (Buffalo of last year) he's a simple cut (at anytime) and a release in which wouldn't set our franchise back whatsoever.

But if you've seen him perform over the 3 years (2 with FSU & 1 with Buffalo) you'd not only understand his ability as an HB but also his love for the game).

    He's actually a good kid.

Yes. He gained unnecessary weight throughout & during his wife's pregnancy (at least he's not a dead beat farher) and Yes. He smoked & failed for marijuana (and thankfully weren't of any hard core drugs).

But to sit here and act as if he doesn't deserve a chance to redeem himself as a young man with a change of scenery is unjust.

I remember when Randy Moss was kicked out of Florida State as a young man due to marijuana. Moss wasn't a bad kid. Just needed to mature. Same goes for Karlos. Broke Bowden's heart to see Moss kicked off the team. Thankfully Marshall gave Randy Moss a chance to redeem himself. The Minnesota Vikings pulled the trigger & Moss gave them 7 years of elite play. After Oakland, N.E gave Moss a 2nd NFL chance & Moss had 3 amazing season's.

Moss is only one example of a player who's failed for marijuana. Some turn it around and some don't.

But Williams shouldn't be considered a "druggie" who can't learn from his mistakes and one offseason of gaining weight alongside his wife being pregnant is a very small sample size. What about his 4 year career with FSU & 1 year with Buffalo? He was never out of shape & always feasted on the football field.

I stand by what I've said regarding Williams. As an FSU fan I know 100% he's a low risk with a potentially extremely high reward. If he gets back on track you then strike gold. He wants to play for the Jets too.

Hey. If he doesn't work out? Release him (simple) and go after (guns blazing) my boy out of FSU in Dalvin Cook (#4) come draft day. The most explosive/dominant FSU HB dating back to #28 Warrick Dunn & my favorite Seminole since.

Thanks for your response and for the additional info on him. I never thought he was a punk, thug, serious druggie or bad seed. I just didn't see him as "low risk." Knowing Rex as I do (not holding players accountable and being so slack and forgiving of mistakes) it was shocking that Buffalo released him, and that made me think he must have been worse than he is.

If you like him so much, that eases my concerns about the kid. I wasn't saying he didn't deserve a chance at redemption, only that he didn't seem like a "low-risk" chance. You have to admit that he's at least potentially a distraction. Then there's the valuable roster spot. If Mac and Bowles like him and opt to give him a chance, then great, I'll root for the kid, and in fact will anyway.

Regardless of whether or not the Jets sign him, I truly hope you're right about him, that he will lose the weight and keep it off, and have no further problems with failed drug tests for marijuana. I hate to see anyone with his kind of ability waste it in any field of endeavor. If he needs counseling, I hope he'll get it. If not, I hope he learned his lesson and he's working his tail off to get back in shape.

Yea I'm just a fan of Karlos due to his tremendous ability to run the ball with a dynamic trio of size, power & speed.

Who knows with any of these troubled kids if they'll turn their off the field behaviors around or continue to run themselves out of the league.

I just know with myself personally, I'm 31 as of today but during my younger days until my mid 20's I smoked a lot of weed. Lost my license because of it for a couple of years but when I had my daughter I no longer wanted to smoke trees and put all my focus on raising my daughter as a positive role model. As a man wouldn't have been fair to her nor my wife to come home smelling like marijuana plus regardless of what we say I can't imagine smoke being in our lungs being good for our health. 1st time I held my daughter I told myself I wanna live until 100 for her rather than slowly killing myself with smoke and her lose her dad when I'm in my 60's etc. Guess you can say I grew out of it but I truthfully loved weed lol therefore will never judge another for enjoying it as well.

I just hope with Karlos he takes note that marijuana will ruin his career & if anything change for the better for his child if no-one else.

Good for you for putting your wife and daughter ahead of your own wants and desires. I hope you get to 100 if that's what you want. Regardless I hope you have many happy, healthy years together with your family.

Look if we wanted Karlos he would be here by now. Sorry Karlos lovers, Poe is real solid however and not overweight. Time to stop talking about Karlos guys, he won't be a Jet.

Probably, but not necessarily. If the Jets had signed him when they brought him in, his salary would have been guaranteed for the entire season if he was on the roster for the first game. They may have worked out a deal with him to show good faith by losing 10-15 pounds or even 20 pounds, then they'll sign him after the first game of the season.

The guy is suspended for the first four games and if he was on the roster day one his contract be guaranteed. It's pretty inaccurate to say he would be here by now if the Jets wanted him.

Also like I said in the Pope thread, he looks very intriguing and I think he could have an impact if we need to rely on him because of injuries, but we still don't have that thumper that can give us 2 to 3 yards of the middle every time. I know our offense is going to be more fast-paced than a normal offense and there are going to be a lot of quick throws to running backs, but it would be nice to at least have one of those bruisers on the roster.

Everyone keeps saying we have Poe as if that would effect Karlos Williams. They wouldn't have the same role..Karlos could be a valuable threat in the redzone... plus lets not forget Forte is 30... I'm not expecting the Chicago version of Forte at all... May not even get a full 16 games of dude.. and i don't recall Bilal ever playing a full 16 games for us.. he's always liable to get hurt. So i don't see a problem with ppl wondering if we will still bring Karlos in. Plus he WANTS to be here.. that's rare ! lol.. we need guys that WANT to be a NY Jet.

Perfect summary man, Forte might be another Ivory, good when healthy but never 100%. Powell is not the type of back that can be a workhorse, he has already proven that in his tenure as a jet.

In this offense the Jets seem to value runners that are effective in the passing game as well as the run. More so than the usual offense anyway.

You get cut for being massively overweight and have already had many issues off the field, of course Karlos got his lil pecker hard when a team contacted him the next day with interest in him. He doesn't care where he goes but wanted to land quickly to know he had a job. Goal line, Sheldon time if Forte has issues punching it in but I think his conversion ratio is an anomaly. He is not as bad as advertised in that area .Also check Powells stats he is very good inside in the 5 yard line.
