Why would that be? He's only under contract through this year. If LaFleur wasn't planning on using him, then why didn't they have JD trade him?
I started thinking that last week but said na just getting healthy but if he's not close to playing this week either really feeling an AJ Green situation where he doesn't see the field. He was our most consistent offensive player last couple years and JD rewarded him with a pay cut. I could see him being like fuck you guys
Really, what motivation does this guy have to play his ass off as a 1 year placeholder on a rebuild and probably being held hostage? What reason did he have to sign the pay cut? He's still playing at a high level. The only reason I can think is that maybe Joe told him he could either sign or be traded and separate him from his family (or uproot them) for a season until he hits FA. In that very hypothetical situation, I could easily see a guy taking things personally.
Yes, if that's the situation, but I hope it isn't. I think he signed because he wasn't going to get more this year elsewhere. He's a classy guy and a pro's pro. Hopefully, he wouldn't let his pride affect him negatively, but rather positively.
