I would not be upset with that at all but i'd like an edge at 35 if thats the case and at 38 a trade down into a TE
Hamilton doesn’t look like a safety to me at the NFL level. I see him more as a linebacker. I like the prospect but I don’t love the prospect. I don’t even think he’s the best DB in the draft to be perfectly honest. Stingley in my opinion has by far the largest ceiling in that group and I’d even put Sauce ahead of him as well. I think tweener type players like Hamilton can be effective no doubt and his combination of size, speed, tackling and ball awareness is really good I’m not denying that but in comparison to Burks is not close in my opinion. Burks has super star potential with a very high floor. His ability to use his frame and 5 XL hands (10.5”) is unmatched. He just doesn’t drop the ball and has the size/speed to back it all up.
thats a really bad take. literally the best safety prospect to come out of the draft in a long long time and you think he's a LBer at the NFL level? stingly isn't even the same position and we aren't bad off at CB. not in a way we should use a high pick on one, especially in our system.
Watch his tape. He’s in the box on 80% of his snaps… he’s a great player but like I said I don’t think he’s a safety. I can’t see him getting low enough personally but I could be wrong.
I have watched his tape. it's phenomenal. Your 80% number is BS. i'd suggest a source if you are going to make that claim. he rarely was in the box, he just gets in so fast from the safety spot you may think that. i'd suggets looking at this breakdown https://steelersdepot.com/2022/02/2022-nfl-draft-player-profiles-notre-dame-s-kyle-hamilton/ hamilton is more then a safety, he's a weapon on the defense who has to be accounted for by the offense. not to mention he's a prototypical build and mensa level IQ.
I don’t actually have the stat with how much he was actually in the box so yes it’s total BS. That’s just a point of how his tape came across for me. If they take Hamilton it’s not like I’d be upset. He’s an phenomenal prospect. He reminded me of Micah Parsons too so that’s another reason I feel he’s more a LB. For the Jets because we have a dire need for a safety he’d play there I have no doubt. Taking Hamilton at 4 and Burks at 10 would be probably be one of the best options out there for the jets.
Check where he lines up though. I always see him back behind the LBers not in the box, he just gets to the play so fast I could see how someone may think he was lined up closer. he plays a really good deep zone. he isn't jamaal adams, he doesn't have a weakness in his game. he can play zone, play in the box, cover TEs and RBs. he does it all
The problem is that if you go back and read the pre-draft hype on Adams you'll see very similar comments. "Once burned; twice shy".
pretty sure adams wasn't 6'4" and had a mensa level IQ. Adams did have a knock about being handsy in man coverage, dropping a lot of INTs, and not playing zone particularly well in pass coverage. he was more of an enforcer type. hamilton doesn't have those issues. his only weakness I've seen is he can't cover smaller shifty slot WRs which is fine
Whatever negative reports there were about Adams were drowned out by the massive hype. Not a few analysts said "He might be the best player in the draft". Sound familiar? They said that about Leo Williams and Q. Williams, to name two more recent examples. While none of them were "busts", none of them elevated the team much beyond what it was, and that's no fault of theirs, it was simply the nature of the position. And no his only weakness isn't that he can't cover smaller shifty slot WRs (which would NOT be fine IMO), but he relies on his ability to read QBs and read other players "cues" that he's prone to getting sucked into fakes. Over time, he'll certainly learn how to adjust, but in the beginning, the first few years, the "instinctive" plays he making on college level talent won't be there nearly as much in the NFL. All this said, I do understand that he indeed a rare talent, and if Douglas takes him at #4 I won't cry, but the Jets are not one great Safety away from being a contender, let alone a SB contender. I don't think he'll drop to #10, and I sure wouldn't like it if JD traded up from there to take him after using the #4 on a more critical need, so I don't see him wearing Green & White. I would alter my rule of thumb of "No DBs in the first 15 picks" if he did somehow fall to #10, but that's not going to happen. But there's still time and more for me to see and consider before the draft. Maybe none of the Edges are really worth the #4 pick, maybe the only OLs and WRs aren't either, in which case taking Hamilton might be the best choice (barring a trade back for a boatload in return), as of now though I'm still in the "Don't take a Safety with the #4 pick" camp.
nobody said adams was the best player in the draft. everyone was in agreement it was myles garrett. they did say he was the best safety prospect in a long time and that was true and he's been all pro and multiple time pro bowler so you can't really shit on adams as a player. he was also good enough to net us 2 1sts in a trade. Nobody said Q was the best player in the draft either. we all knew it was bosa. that's why we were hoping SF passed on bosa for Q out of need but they took the BPA despite being loaded with rushers already. just because a player may or may not pan out, doesn't mean anything. many of stud players led great defenses. ed reed in baltimore, troy palamalu in pitt, brian dawkins in philly. for DTs right now it's just arron donald. sapp had a few years as did others. all that is beside the point. In our defense safeties don't man up slot WRs, you also way underestimate how smart hamilton is. anyway as great as he is, i'm leaning towards the edge/WR combo with a trade back somewhere in the 1st round. could even net a 3rd 1st rounder with a trade back for ammo then a trade up from 35 if someone falls. So in a way I'm hoping we don't pick him and KT falls to 4 and we trade back from 10 and get a WR in the mid 1st. but it doesn't mean i'm going to shortchange how good hamilton is.
I'm not going to do an exhaustive dig for former assessments, but this one popped up in the first couple of references to my Google: "did anyone call jamal adams the best player in the 2017 nfl draft": https://www.nfl.com/news/mts-notebook-jamal-adams-is-top-prospect-in-2017-nfl-draft-0ap3000000798217 "It's a foregone conclusion that Texas A&M's Myles Garrett is poised to be the No. 1 overall pick of the 2017 NFL Draft, but LSU's Jamal Adams is the best prospect in the draft. It's easier to hold that belief following Adams' spectacular pro day workout where he clocked times reportedly in the 4.38 range, but I've long believed the charismatic safety is poised to make the biggest impact of any prospect in the draft."
ok thats fair, you found 1. I mean even 1 scout if not a couple said leaf was a better prospect then manning. the outliers aren't typically the norm though. brooks fell in love with him form what i just read, but also noted intangibles which we all seen he didn't have when the losing started
TBH, I'm not a fan of Bucky Brooks, and I'm not surprised he missed on his assessment because I think he misses more than not, but a lot of people follow him and quote him - his assessments get copied and reproduced in many media outlets. And if I wanted to spend the time - which I don't - I could dig and find more "Adams is the best" quotes, but the point is there is NO draftee guaranteed to be great. There are other variables outside of the player himself that impact that outcome. In the case of Leo Williams, had the Jets had other, better players around him and if they could've/would've played him at his best position (maybe DE using a 4-3?), he might well have been the impact player we were told we were getting. If the Jets take Hamilton, will he be able to be used to his best advantage? IDK.
saleh has historically gotten more out of Dbs then expected. we've already seen it with hall, echols, carter guidry, etc
KT + Burks would be our best situation. Hamilton + Burks second. Stingley + Burks third. Burks + Lloyd fourth. Burks + Sauce fifth.
