Enjoyed my turkey and salami on rye, and ready for the getaway day sweep. Endy in for Moises, Castro for Lo Duca.
Wright with another awful at bat. Did anyone see the article in Newsday about him? I wonder how much Willie says he believes, and how much is designed to support his players. Can he really think that Wright hitting 6 HRs in his last 317 at bats (since last year's all star game) means nothing? Does he really think that RBIs are the best measure of how well a player is hitting? And if he does, why does he dismiss that Wright has only 4 RBIs this year? Does he really think that it's only in the past few games that Wright has looked bad? All I can say is, God, I hope not.
This has the feeling of a game that the Mets are going to let get away because of carelessness. Pelfrey screws up the bunt by Taveras, a perfect example of what I'm saying.
Oh well. Time to turn off the TV and work on my paper. I said during spring training that no team should expect all five of their starters to be pitching well at any time. Pretty clear who is taking the role of "not pitching well" for the Mets. Time for him to move out of the rotation.
I'm not scout, but where does all this "obviously, he's talented" talk come from. Ok, his fastball has to be pretty good, because it's the only pitch he throws and he can still get some people out with it, but he's got nothing else. Not even relievers can get by with just a fastball in the majors and they've got this kid trying to do it as a starter. He shouldn't be anywhere near the big leagues until he at least has a second pitch that is ML ready.
