Don't get it twisted though, they've both been bad. Every single QB in the 2021 class has been bad outside of Mac Jones and he landed in a great spot with the greatest HC of all time (Please nobody turn this into a Mac Jones debate).

What many members of this board have wanted to see is progress, and that's what we saw yesterday from Zach. Zach took a lot of what was given to him, he still had some inconsistent short accuracy issues w/ball placement, but it looked much better than it has in the past.

The response had nothing to do with Mahomes capability which we all know, nor his performance yesterday. Is simply in response to those here that set arbitrary completion targets without context as a measure of success for our QB. I’ll take 60% on a rookie QB every day if the team dominates on both sides of the ball and wins some of the games. 85% completion yesterday would not have won shit with our defense, irrespective of the QB, except perhaps the very elite, like a fully healthy Mahomes.

well he looked pretty dam ready yesterday. it also could have been a mental thing with the knee injury too and worried about hurting it. he looked really good yesterday though

Correct, they've both been bad. My point is because of where he plays, Wilson is getting annihilated and because of where he plays, Lawrence is playing worse but no one is talking about it.

And agreed on the second part, there was VERY obvious progress and there have been more than enough flashes to know that Wilson can be a good starting QB.

I don’t really think that’s true though. It just feels like Wilson is getting beat up more because it’s closer to you. You live in New York and follow the Jets. I’m sure all of the trashing is going on with Lawrence down in Florida too.

Zach made some mistakes, and some bad throws - all expected from even the greatest of prospects - but he certainly showed progress yesterday. And had the defense and the officiating not been so bad, maybe the Jets even win the game. Not getting the Eagles off the field in the 3rd quarter, and allowing them to go up a couple of scores put way too much pressure on Zach and the offense, but they didn't quit, and that non-PI call with Moore near the goal line was ridiculous considering the PI the refs DID call on the Jets earlier that was borderline.

My rank order of reasons the Jets lost:

    1. Defense - or lack thereof.
    2. Officiating - more fuel to the belief that the zebras have a perpetual hard on for the Jets, even in their "own" stadium.
    3. Kicking - both kickers.

And I'm NOT listing Wilson as a reason even though he made some mistakes. EVERY QB makes mistakes, even Brady and Mahomes. Zach did what he was asked to do,and improved as everyone here has demanded. Now he has to build on that improvement.

Most QB can hit WR in the numbers so they can run after the catch?

If the number one pick was playing for the Jets and threw 1 TD, 1 INT while completing only 55% of his passes over a six week stretch I PROMISE you it would be all over ESPN. Last week they had Orlovsky on one of the morning shows to break down Wilson's mistakes from the Texans game. I unfortunately have to watch a lot of ESPN because my desk at work is near a TV that has it on all the time... I have never ever seen a single mention of Lawrence unless it was to point out a great throw followed by "welp just a year of learning for Lawrence!"

I mean at the end of the day who gives a shit. It's just a funny dynamic that's as old as time itself. Wilson had a good day, was the driving force behind our best offensive half of football this year and showed that he can do the things he needs to do to be successful. I'm content.

Nationally though, it does feel like the Jets and Wilson get trashed even though Jacksonville and Lawrence have been just as bad, if not worse. It's just what comes with the NY market unfortunately.

Fair enough. I try to avoid the dumpster fire that is ESPN at all costs unless there’s a game on or it’s CFB related so maybe I’m missing it.

Yes, the guys here who were against drafting Wilson - or ANY QB - apparently aren't going to stop until Zach is inducted into Canton. I may finally have to resort to putting them on Ignore, something I've not had to do so far with anyone here, but it really is tedious. I have at least learned to recognize the handle and simply skip over their posts if they have to do with Wilson.

I have to say that after the first half I got my hopes up that Wilson would be able to lead them from behind despite the swiss cheese defense, even holding onto that hope into the 4th quarter, so I was disappointed he couldn't pull it off. Still, it was a good performance overall for a rookie in his 7th game against a pretty good defense. I expect to see him build on that going forward, and I will expect to see him soon be able to actually lead the Jets back from a hole to win. If he doesn't meet those expectations, oh well, he won't be the first Jets QB to fall sort.

It's good to see that you can be openminded and fair. I wish some other posters would follow your example.

Well said indeed. We keep putting Wilson under the microscope for every single move, while we fail to accept the corresponding cause and effect to the outcome driven by the ineptitude of the rest of the team including coaching. I'm still bewildered as to how incredibly poorly prepared the whole defensive game plan was. We were ridiculed by the opposition both offensively and defensively. I will have to eat my words and wonder how in the hell were Saleh and the DC so ill prepared. The weekly rhetoric a strong defense is one of the best ways of helping a rookie QB has completely lost all credibility with the NYJ coaching staff. That problem needs to be fixed first.

Watching the UK broadcast of Ravens at Steelers after the Jets game they did a short piece with one the Around the NFL podcast guys. He was asked about TL. He response was basically: he's been struggling, the numbers are bad, but when I watch him I see him make some great plays. I'm less concerned with Trevor than I am with the other rookies, like Zach Wilson, who I don't see doing that.

Which would indicate that you are correct.
