It was brought to my attention that BB beat Herbert and the Chargers 45-0 last December … and were ahead 28-0 at the half … and held Herbert to 26-53 for 209 yards and 2 INTS. Since the 2020 Chargers were much better than the 2021 Jets, and Herbert was a much better rookie than Wilson is, I guess this should make me feel better about what happened last Sunday. Correct?

I posted this in the Davis injury thread, but since Mims is also being discussed here, thought I should post it here as well, since it responds or is related to some of the comments posters have made.

Denzel Mims will finally get his moment in the limelight
Corey Davis' hip injury will give young New York Jets WR Denzel Mims the opportunity to shine that he has been waiting for.

    Excerpt from the article

IMO the reason they fell off a cliff is Sam Darnold. He rarely threw the ball to Mims, even though Mims was open. We know Sam's decision making was bad and accuracy was bad, especially on deep passes.

IMO that shows plenty of potential and production. IMO there is absolutely no valid reason for the way they have misused (not used) Mims this season. If that doesn't change over the last 10-11 games, then LaFleur must be fired, and probably Saleh as well.[/QUOTE]

First, let me say that I respect you and your opinion, but I totally disagree with your conclusion on this. I agree that the Jets are going in the right direction with the complete rebuild, JD and the talent, but not with regards to the CS.

I have no problems with playing the young players this season, getting them experience, and seeing who can help them going forward. In fact, I think that is the right thing to do. That means that there will be struggles, ups and downs and the team will probably lose more than they win. That's all well and good. The problem is that the team isn't losing games just because of youthful mistakes, penalties, and sloppy play. That's part of it, but they're losing games because the basic game plans are awful, the play design and play calling are awful, because the system is too damned complex for a rookie OC, rookie QB and mostly young offensive team to run, the OC is inflexible and not adapting the system to the talents of his players, and is not doing a good job of teaching/coaching them and getting them prepared to play. They are beating themselves because they don't know their responsibilities, because the system is too complex. They're beating themselves because they're having to think too much, rather than just reacting and allowing their talent to take over. They're beating themselves because they can't play with any real fire and passion, because they're hesitant from having to think too much.

The Jets don't have enough players yet to be a playoff team, but they have more than enough players and talent to at least be competitive in games, and they aren't being competitive. The offense does nothing early, gets in a hole, and then there's a ton of pressure to play catch up. That's no way to play or to win a game. LaFleur is doing nothing to try to help his QB and offense to get in sync early and build confidence. Foolishly, he's trying to exploit issues in the opposing team's secondary. He's trying to impose his will on the other team, rather than wisely taking what he is being given. He has a talented player like Mims that he has hardly used. Probably none of the players would admit it, but I'll bet not one offensive player feels comfortable and confident in this offense, and if they were honest, they'd say that they're having to think too much, and can't relax and just play. That CAN be helped, and should change.

IMO it's an absolute and utter joke that during the bye, Saleh and LaFleur were going to take an in-depth look at what was wrong with the team and themselves and address it during the bye week, yet found nothing, and only did minor tweaking. They're so in over their head that they can't even realize what they don't know, and see that THEY, Saleh and LaFleur, and their approach is the problem, and the root cause for the embarrassing way in which the team has underperformed. If this isn't addressed, there is no hope for this team in the short term. Maybe in five or ten years Saleh and LaFleur will mature, wake up and see that they are to blame. I doubt if many of the fanbase is willing to wait that long, however.

The problem is definitely not lack of talent, or a lack of players who love the game and who work hard, or a lack of players who want to win and are capable of winning. The problem is that they're not being put in a position where they can succeed and where their efforts will pay off.

No because last year's Chargers Pats game was a fluke, and last week's Jets Pats game wasn't a fluke considering how the other Jets games have gone.

You should feel better in spite of what that poster said. BB has made a career out of embarrassing rookie QBs and making them look awful.
