Someone worked too hard to type all of that up. Saleh will be better than Gase. No doubt about it. 2021 has been tougher than I expected so far, but there are 11 games left. Likely 7-9 with Zach Wilson too. I think the true judgement on Joe Douglas and Robert Saleh will come in 2022. The Jets should be a much better team. They still need to stick together and finish the 2021 season strong, but I care less about wins and losses now. I just want to see LaFleur improve his play calling, Wilson continue to get better each game once he returns, the defense to play like an actual unit, and Robert Saleh getting a better command of his team.
That's because you have to agree with his choices, or chances are the HC candidate won't take the job, then the Jets would have yet another awfully embarrassing situation on their hands like with Rhule, and then who knows who we would have wound up with as HC. With Greg Knapp on board, it was OK to have LaFleur, and chances were that LaFleur would be good since his brother is very good. If Knapp had lived, things could be very different. You and others are grossly over-reacting with regards to JD, imo, and if you get your way, you will doom the team and fans to a return of the Johnsons running the team, another GM like Mac, and more HCs like Bowles and Gase. Saleh can still improve, and Douglas has done well with everything else. To say he should not get the opportunity to hire another HC if Saleh doesn't pan out is ridiculous imo. With your attitude applied to every franchise in the NFL, the Steelers would never have become the solid, stable franchise the Steelers have been, and other great teams who have showed patience and didn't panic, wouldn't have ever become as good as they were/are. I don't like that the turnaround isn't boing to be quick, either, but firing everyone and starting over yet again is definitely NOT the answer.
With all due respect, what has this CS made you believe that they are capable of what you just posted? I mean they just lost by probably the second largest margin in team history after a bye week. The team plays uninspired ball and a comparison to AG 1st 6 games is almost identical. Finally, the mantra for the bye week was we will tweak practice schedule to help the players body clocks and then you have the OC talking about taking a hard look at himself... so any reasonable person would infer from those statements, that maybe these guys are woke up to their failed coaching - cause right now that is what it is. But no, they came out again and look unprepared, uninspired and out coached. The way this team is executing, that is a pun BTW, you would think this is OTAs and that my friend is CS. So please , enlighten me, cause I have about as much faith in this HC and CS as I did last year with AG and his CS.
And a really dumb one. Way to go. What the fuck does that have to do with anything? I'm trying to have a conversation but you are making it really hard.
The Patriots game was awful, no one can defend it, but I also would not use it as an example of how the Jets will play the rest of the way. That is just not true. The Jets are a young team, that has also had to deal with key injuries to Becton, Lawson, Davis, both starting safeties, and then CJ Mosley last week, who was clearly missed. Right Guard Greg Van Roten is also one of the worst players I have seen on a Jets team in a long time. Every game he drives me nuts. The Jets have also started slow each game. I feel Saleh's style works best when he has a good pass rush and is playing with the lead. Of course, the Jets have done neither this season. I get not being happy with how the Jets have played and been coached the first 6 games, but I also think it is way too premature to give up on the coaching staff. I personally don't believe we have watched Robert Saleh football yet.
So I am reading that it's not JD's fault that the team is not competitive and getting progressively worse over his tenure here. It's not his fault that he hired a Head Coach who couldn't hire the right coordinators? I'm sorry but JD is a first time GM who doesn't deserve a second pick on the apple tree. As far as I know he has never built a winning team as a GM, and if the team continues to get worse, he is part of the whole problem and should definitely go with the rest of the staff. I could see Woody firing Saleh at the end of next year and keeping Joe Douglas. Sh@t, he may even give him an extension! Only the Jets.
What has JD produced? Name a single great franchise changing move he has made in 2 and 1/2 yrs. Having a ton of cap money and high draft picks we have very few players to build around. We have a lot of question marks ? What is totally insane is JD brought in a head coach and his staff (which JD had to know about) that does not match up with his first draft class. You invest a high one in a ot, you want a coach to let him shine. Gase did a better job with Becton and Mims
I remember we used to have a GM who in two offseasons got us a ton of cap money and high draft picks while dumping overpaid players. That GM was also terrible at bringing in talent. But he didn't have nice media articles written about him or big muscles, so Jets fans didn't give him anywhere near as much slack...
I agree with you that Douglas should not be fired anytime soon. And for the reasons you say. The current state of the pathetic jets, IMO, is a combination of : 1) A dearth of talent based on years of Mike MacCagnan poor drafting and signings. Most NFL teams are living on talent drafted between 2025--2019. MacCagnan wasted all those picks on guys like Hackenberg, Lee, Stewart, Hansen, a fortune of picks to move up for Darnold, etc. 2) Bad coaching by Saleh and staff. The jets are an absolute embarrassment. Saleh is another Todd Bowles--decent DC who has no clue as head coach, and I mean no clue! The OC and QB Wilson both look like deer in headlights. The jets can't stop a screen pass. When the game starts, I EXPECT the jets to be down double digits at the half. You can see how bad the jets are because the teams that easily handled the jets this year (Panthers, Broncos, Pats) are getting pushed around by the rest of the league. If this keeps up, I would fire Saleh and the whole staff at the end of 2021. Woody will wait until end of 2022, however, since that is when Gase is off payroll. Forget the money, Woody does not want the embarrassment of two ex-coaches on the payroll and the same time. 3) Douglas does own some of this, but it is up to the coaching staff to develop young players. They have not!!!! However, IMO Douglas has misfired on: --2020 drafting Morgan and trading 6th round pick for worthless CB --2021 draft-- taking Wilson and not moving down for more picks--I did not want Darnold's 2022 option exercised by the jets (as Carolina foolishly did), but I did want Douglas to move down from #2 overall --Starting 2021 season without a rostered QB who ever fired an NFL pass. Inexcusable! --Not getting LB help thru draft or free agency. Yes, tons of injuries but who the hell ever expected two mid-round rookie college S to fill LB spots? --Not signing veteran kicker for 2021--I wanted Zane Gonzalez --2021 extension to Franklin Myers was way to much money for journeyman Whatever. I hope in 2022 Douglas does not move up in the draft. Ever. Too many needs. And we really need some coaching. I was hoping Saleh and LaFleur would be good. But that performance after the bye week was one of the biggest embarrassments in the history of this franchise. To me it looks like Saleh wants to be the buddy of all the players and that never works. He is not there to befriend them. Make some changes. Kick some butt. Call out your underachievers. Call out your coaching staff. Do something. Good grief!
I've never liked any gm besides maybe the Tanny early years. Loved Donnie Henderson when he was our DC. I didn't mind Marty Mornhinweg. And I'm fine with the Johnsons ownership...
Thanks for answering. I don't many more will because this fan base pretty much hates everybody we've ever had. Whoever comes in next will be hated as well. It's just the way it is. They need to get every single thing right.
Good points and I respect your opinion but here is something to consider I just posted in the "is he the right guy for the job" thread" I do not like to kick someone when they are on their way down but come on, the guy is an NFL lifer, knew what he was getting into and is failing as a HC: NYPOST: The Jets don’t have a plan, or an identity, on either side of the ball. On defense, Saleh’s specialty, they are among six teams that surrender more than 400 yards per game, and among four teams that surrender more than 29 points per game. They are also the league’s only team yet to record a single interception. On offense, the Jets are the league’s only team yet to score a single point in the first quarter — they’ve scored just 20 in 180 first-half minutes. They are averaging a league-worst 13.3 points per game, or 20 fewer than the top-scoring teams. Bingo, we have a winner. Also, what is far more telling is a comparisons between AG and RS 1-6 games and you guessed it, they both had 5 L and 1 W. AG 61pts for to 134against, RS 53 -151... seems our new shinny HC is worse then his predecessor. at least at this point in time. That is why I am off the RS band wagon.
This board is always good for a laugh. Rebuilding tales time especially with a rookie QB. Signing stop gaps to win 4 games instead of 2 is silly, as is Rex Ryan.
If you can't see the truth of the matter and what JD has produced, I can't help you. I'm not about to waste my time listing all the excellent moves he has made and things he has done. Based on this and most of your other posts, you're obviously clueless and your mind closed, so I'd only be wasting my time. The only thing I'll respond to is the bold. First, his first draft class, at least the most important parts of it (Becton, Mims, Hall, and Mann) DO match up or should match up. Saleh and LaFleur both claimed that they were going to adapt their schemes to fit the talent the Jets have. They either lied or have gone back on their word. JD isn't a mind reader and couldn't have known that they wouldn't do what they claimed they were going to do. Gase did do a better job with Becton and Mims. I'm as angry and upset about that as any Jets fan. That's why I'm of the belief that at a minimum, without major changes and improvement the rest of this season, LaFleur must get fired, and if Saleh refuses to do it or make needed changes, he must go too. Firing JD and not allowing him to pick the next HC would be totally effing stupid! You and some other fans are delusional, your expectations beyond ridiculous, and your attitudes are akin to those who have caused the Jets to be a joke for most of the last 50 years. The only way this team will ever get to where we want it to is to have some patience and develop stability. Like it or not, we need to be patient and give the young players and rookie coaches a chance to learn and develop or we'll just continue the crazy cycle of cleaning house and starting over every 2-3 years and the team will continue to be shit.
Nasirildeen was playing pretty well. The D has gotten worse since he was injured. One of the top LBs in the NFL was a S in college and is not a LB for the 49ers. If we had quality veterans, they could have started and the rookies had a year to put on weight and learn the ropes of playing LB from watching the vets. We didn't have that luxury. They're rookies and all rookies make mistakes. Guy, you're smarter than this. I respect you and your opinion, but step back, and take a deep breath. You're letting less rational minds influence you for the worse. This team was in HORRIBLE shape when JD was hired. It didn't get in horrible shape just from Gase. It has been in horrible shape, getting worse and worse for the last 10 years or so. This isn't going to be a quick turnaround. JD didn't have the options that a lot of 1st-time GMs have, in that he had practically no quality veterans on the team, and those he had (except Mosely) have too high opinions of themselves and their play.
No he wasnt he barely played, got benched, and then hurt himself. You gotta be thinking of someone else
