Robert Pattinson is officially the new Batman.

Warner Bros. has closed a deal for the “Twilight” actor to play the Caped Crusader in “The Batman.”

Matt Reeves’ upcoming superhero tentpole hits theaters on June 25, 2021. Variety first reported on May 16 that Pattinson was in negotiations for the part. The studio confirmed on Friday that Pattinson had signed a deal.

Pre-production on the Warner Bros.-DC Comics pic is expected to start this summer.

Reeves, the filmmaker behind the last two “Planet of the Apes” sequels, assumed “The Batman” directing duties from Ben Affleck in January 2017. Reeves will produce “The Batman” with his “Planet of the Apes” collaborator Dylan Clark.

Interesting choice to say the least. What do you guys think?

We are about 2 years away from The Batman's release, so I will use this thread for updates.

The best Batman casting choices have always been the ones least expected — Keaton, Ledger, Bale. I think this is a great choice. Just because he came to fame in BS teen movies that I had no interest in doesn’t mean he can’t be a good choice for this role.

I still think Ben is the best batman so far. He captured that rage and anger and self torture that Bruce Wayne has.

Not saying this can't work but let's see if the Edward can pull it off

Yeah, agreed. The people putting down the casting so far act as if he is going to show up to set looking like this:

He won't. They clearly have a plan and I trust Matt Reeves. He is a good director. I can see Pattinson as Bruce Wayne. Not sure how he will look as Batman, but we have no clue what the suit will look like either.
I like Bale and Keaton more than Affleck, but he did a fine job.

Bale was the only good Batman because "Batman Begins" was the only well written and directed Batman movie every made.

It's time for Hollywood to come up with some new ideas I think.

How many times can they reuse the same characters but with different actors?

The Christian Bale Batman trilogy is the pinnacle for the franchise it's hard for me to imagine anyone topping that.

Just like I'm pretty much all Marveled out after the Avengers Endgame debacle I've had enough of Batman too.

The Nolan films cast a large shadow over the character that will be hard to get out of. There’s a lot that can be done with the character that hasn’t been done so far, but it’s a very thin line between capturing a great, new take and simply trying too hard to be different from what has been done before.

If DC was wise they would have gone with a Batman Beyond film.

I think Batman needs to do a hard reboot and go full Adam West Batman. I think Pattinson can play that roll. It’d be like Keaton in reverse.

Good point. Casting Batman is clearly the most important, but the rest of the casting news should be exciting too.
