Because Pats fans don't understand how the internet works. writers and web pages get paid off page hits. So every time profootballtalk writes an article about the Jets because Revis farts during a radio interview and the idiots of the world (not just Pats fans) click on the article just to make fun of the jets or ask why they get so much attention, the guys running the website see tons of clicks and comments and say wow the Jets get huge numbers we need to keep writing about them as much as possible so our advertisers will pay. thus ends todays lesson in "internet 101"
The two NEP coaches immediately prior to Belichamp? Pete Carroll. Bill Parcells. Super Bowls? XX and XXXI. Both losses, I grant you (one of them a humiliating beatdown) but still, two more SBs than the Lions. And, I've got a Drew Bledsoe jersey hanging in my closet. And a Steve Grogan poster mouldering in my basement.
All New York teams get more media coverage. But with the Patriots success they get more than most teams and possibly more than the Jets. You can talk about Rex Ryan's embarrassing boasts (which he could never back up) but what about Belichick and his antics including cheating scenarios like Deflategate. (Goodell isn't going to challenge Kraft and jeopardize his 44 mil per season salary-and the "investigation" is a complete joke). So on a national level NEP has more coverage than the Jets on a number of levels-their excellence on the field and your shenanigans on and off the field (Aaron Hernandez, Deflategate, the whole ball of wax).
It really didn't start until BB. They had a modicum of success before him including with Parcells and even Raymond Berry for a few seasons. But the dynasty started with BB. Before Belichick the Jets and the Patriots were on a level playing field: some success but mostly both battling it out for last place.
Battling it out for last place. And, respectfully, that's where you liked them. There seems to be a resentment factor towards the Pats, that they don't "belong" in the Super Bowl, even though they keep showing up there. It isn't about "cheating" or BB's lousy personality. It's the fact that the team has been successful, and is not a New York team.
Look, I respect your team and wish Belichick had not quit the Jets. And I don't hold a grudge but as a New York fan can't stand your franchise. But your team has gone above and beyond and has made a joke out of the league. Deflategate brought the NFL a hundred million dollars of bad publicity. They were on the news every night sometimes the lead story. Not for winning the SB but for cheating. What a great image for the youth of America. If you cheat and get away with it that's OK. And Hernandez a player NEP did not do their due diligence on-and re-signed even with all of the red flags. His trial is every night on TV. And then there's all of the other scandals. Your team is like a dysfunctional family. Brilliant but terribly flawed. I'm just sick and tired of hearing Robert Kraft deny everything.
The only reason Deflategate is a scandal at all is because the NFL wanted it to be. Seriously, when is the last time the Jets had their footballs "audited" at halftime? Goodell gets a chance to look like the Enforcer, until Kraft called him out on it. As for Hernandez, I will never take the position that the process that creates football players creates good people. We know nothing of the interior lives of these men we root for on Sundays. Nothing. I used to admire Dan Marino, loved watching him on "Inside the NFL." Now, knowing what I know about him, I wouldn't want to be in the same room with him.
Goodell had to audit the balls because several teams complained about it. But I get it, in your world cheating is business as usual, so what's to investigate there?
It's hard to believe they "knew nothing" about Hernandez. That's why he dropped to the 4th round. Because he was a bad apple. You don't sign a guy to an expensive extension no matter how good he is if he has a track record of hanging out with gangs. I don't know anything negative about Marino except he dropped in the draft due to suspicion of using marijuana. The reason for inspecting the balls was because at least one other team and GM (and maybe two) warned the league about them possibly deflating balls. And why did your ball boy take the balls into a restroom. And why only the NEP balls deflated. I'll take Bill Nye the Science guy over Bill Belichick on that one. Where there's smoke there's fire. The NFL didn't want this believe me esp. right around the SB.
There would be no reason to ever in the history of the NFL audit anyone's footballs at halftime. Until some shithead team started intentionally and systematically deflating them to make it easier to throw, catch and hold onto them. It's like before the shoe bomber--who would have thought you'd have to take your fucking shoes off before getting on a plane? Until one douchebag does it and fucks it up for the rest of us. _
If anyone had a serious concern about ball inflation, these 3 things could have happened: a.) The Colts could have called up the Pats and said, "look, we have a concern about ball inflation. We're not saying you did something, but we'd like you to be aware of it." b. The Colts could have called up the league and then said, "look, Patriots, we just got off the phone with the league. I'm going to tell you what I told them. It's about the inflation level of your footballs, see..." c.) The league could have called the Pats and said, "we got a complaint from a team we won't name. Someone is putting the word out there that you have inflation issues with your footballs. I'm not sayin', I'm just sayin'." Instead, the League decided to run the worst sting operation in the history of ever. During a playoff game, no less. It's been eight weeks, and they still haven't figured out what happened. Nothing was written down. No chain of custody for anything. Oh, and an NFL employee who was stealing game balls during the game and then selling them on eBay. You can't make this stuff up. Does Goodell like scandals? Take a look at what he did to the Browns. Texting to the sideline? Are you kidding me? He couldn't have taken care of that with a phone call? Oh, and the "ball boy" is in his 60s. My guess is, he had to pee.
Why tip them off or give them the benefit of doubt if they are cheating. Why should the Colts who were competitors and no friends of NEP and that includes Grigson give them a break. Checking the inflation of the balls isn't a sting. But look what happened in terms of subterfuge from the NEP end.
Let's say you're playing in a charity golf tournament. On the 11th hole, your playing partner moves a twig on the fairway next to his ball. The ball moves. Do you: a.) Approach him and say, "your ball moved. You're gonna take a stroke on that, right?" b.) Wait until you both get into the clubhouse and he signs his card, and then snitch on him. If your answer is "b", then you have a future in pro football in Indy.
It's a ridiculous assumption to say that if you have what you think is proof a team cheated to beat you you should ask them if they did it. You go the NFL and report it. I can assure you that Kraft would have reported it. He even made a complaint about our dopey owner saying he would have signed Revis for the bargain price he got from Kraft.
Yup, I think Kraft made a huge mistake complaining about tampering. It makes him look whiny, and in the end, it won't change anything and just isn't worth it. And for the Jets to "return fire" on this is just absurd. Neither team is covering itself in glory on this one. They're like gorillas at the zoo, throwing their dung at each other.
