If Geno had no shot then they wouldn't have named him the starter last year. They're pretty clearly not paying Fitz top dollar. Theyve offered Fitz backup money because that's what they view him as. If they'd decided Geno was hopeless they would have cut him. I think the truth is that they don't really know what they have with Geno and need to see him play to make a decision. He's never had the kind of offensive support this team has and during his starting years he really didn't have an NFL Calibre receiving core. We're probably not going anywhere next year given the brutal schedule, so maybe it's time to find out. We know what Fitz can provide and it's not enough to take them to the Super Bowl. RG3 may suck or not, but the possibility that he may be able to do something with Chans help makes him worth considering.
There offering Fitz money because of what he did last season. Plus I'll add add I heard they are offering him 7-8 mil a year. Doesn't sound like a team who really cares if he comes back. As for RG3 I don't see anywhere there saying he would start.
No, I think the Jets do care if Fitz comes back or not; I think they want him back. But they know where they stand price wise and I'm siding with Mac and company. However, if they can afford to bump up their offer a bit, I think it's in their interest to do so.
Why? So what he had a career year. But he been on 5 teams in past 5 years for a reason. He proven he chokes when we need him most.
Right, but familiarity coming off of last season, even despite Week 17, is key for a (still) win-now squad.
Last night was a dinner meeting for getting to know the guy. Today is meeting the coaching staff, and check out the building. Usually 2 day visits mean signing is hours away, but none of us really have any information to go off of, because unlike year's past, news/rumors aren't getting leaked.
Griffin has been so well liked and respected among his teammates, coaches, and fan base. with that going for him, what could possibly go wrong in this market? wait...what?
I don't think RG3 is the next Tom Brady, but he also had a curmudgeon for a HC when Shanahan was there and it was not a good match for either as Mike lost his job because of the meltdown of that team. Sometimes things don't go well with a CS and QB, Alex Smith is a perfect example of a QB who was better than everyone though he was and the staff he was saddled with was actually the problem. I'm willing to give RG3 the benefit of the doubt under this CS, hopefully it won't cost too much to make it happen.
I actually stand by my Marshall worry a bit from a few pages back - Brandon Marshall on Ryan Fitzpatrick: "The way we communicate, the way we practice together, the way we bring other guys together, I’ve never seen that anywhere else -- and I’ve been a lot of places and I’ve had a lot of quarterbacks. That’s the toughest thing for me when I think about him potentially putting on another jersey. What we had and what we have is hard to create. It took us almost a year to do that; well, six months to do that. Most of the time, it takes guys a couple of years. We feel like we’re really close. We have a great defense. We have a consistent offense. We have great coaches. All we need to do now is continue to get more reps with the same guys.”
2 coaching staffs in Washington seemed to have issues with Griffin. i guess you think third time is the charm?
