Whether he's a "solid NFL wr." is debatable... but it wasn't working in Carolina the least two years...
Dumping part of his contract, maybe. Pretty sure the Panthers are still going to be carrying part of the burden, both in cash and in cap space.
Robbie got a 2 yr/$20M contract with the Panthers. The Jets would easily have matched that or slightly better but when Robbie left the Jets his ask was in the 4 yr/$56M range - which the Jets never responded too. Their lack of engagement even to politely suggest that Robbie test the market and then come back to them led Robbie to not consider them an option after he hit the market. If the Jets had known that the level of interest in Robbie was at the 2 yrs/$10M a year level they clearly would have tried to keep his interest longer given his chemistry with Darnold and affordability.
Clearly you’re wrong. I promised I would be nicer to old people so I won’t belittle you. If you want to believe Robbie’s agent didn’t inform the Jet’s there was interest in their client to get the biggest commission possible, I’m not going to change your mind. We’ll just stick with “JD misjudged the market”
You're not understanding my position. I think Robbie's agent did everything he could to inform the Jets there was interest in his client at the $13-14M 4 year range. I think the Jets didn't respond to that because they didn't want to pay that much over that term. That's where JD misread the market. He thought Robbie might get those kind of offers and so he just backed the Jets away from the negotiating table - leading Robbie to characterize our position later as "the Jets weren't really interested." Then it turns out that the best offer out there is 2 years at $10M/yr but by then Robbie is insulted by the Jets "lack of interest" and he doesn't even consider bringing that type of offer back to the Jets. Misread the market doesn't mean there was a lot more interest out there than we thought. It means there was a lot less interest out there.
I understand your position, I’m just too old to do that many mental gymnastics to get there. Maybe Robbie was telling the truth and the Jets weren’t interested….
Come on, he was more than that, he might not have been top of the class but he could run routes, these arguments have been going on in here for years, video proof of him doing things that people said he couldn't do were also posted, of course, he is at his best as a run fast player, is that even a bad thing? I liked him as a Jet, I thought Gase was an utter clown for not utilising what he had and everything else Gase did proved who was the damned clown in the end.
Funny thing, I think his name was still Robby when this thread was started. Then he actually did change it to Robbie. So now it's Chosen, huh? I guess he got his inspiration from Cam Newton and his stripper girlfriend. The trick question is, can he spell it. EDIT: sp . . . Psych!
How the hell is World B. Free not in the Hall of Fame? Averaged 20 pts a game over a career with 5 different teams. Held world records for signing huge contracts that the team wanted out of almost immediately but had to live with for 3 more seasons.
