U.S. Olympic swimmers Ryan Lochte, Gunnar Bentz, Jack Conger and Jimmy Feigen were robbed at gunpoint while in Rio de Janeiro overnight Saturday, NBC News has confirmed. Ryan Lochte and three other U.S. swimmers were robbed at gunpoint early Sunday morning Following conflicting reports — including the IOC denying any incident took place — Lochte himself confirmed with TODAY's Billy Bush that he and the other swimmers were robbed at gunpoint. "We got pulled over, in the taxi, and these guys came out with a badge, a police badge, no lights, no nothing just a police badge and they pulled us over," Lochte said. "They pulled out their guns, they told the other swimmers to get down on the ground — they got down on the ground. I refused, I was like we didn't do anything wrong, so — I'm not getting down on the ground. "And then the guy pulled out his gun, he cocked it, put it to my forehead and he said, 'Get down,' and I put my hands up, I was like 'whatever.' He took our money, he took my wallet — he left my cell phone, he left my credentials." USOC spokesman Patrick Sandusky later told NBC News in a statement: "According to four members of the U.S. Olympic Swimming Team (Gunnar Bentz, Jack Conger, Jimmy Feigen and Ryan Lochte), they left France House early Sunday morning in a taxi headed for the Olympic Village. Their taxi was stopped by individuals posing as armed police officers who demanded the athletes' money and other personal belongings. All four athletes are safe and cooperating with authorities." Police officials told NBC News that at least one of the athletes reported the incident and they are looking to interview the cab driver about the event. Lochte's mom had earlier told other news organizations that the robbery happened at a party. "I think they're all shaken up. There were a few of them," Ileana Lochte told USA Today. "No, they were just, they just took their wallets and basically that was it." USA Today and Fox Sports Australia had both reported that the 32-year-old Lochte was robbed early Sunday while socializing the night after Olympic swimming events ended. An IOC spokesman denied the claim to the Associated Press at first before hedging, acknowledging he didn't directly know the specifics of the situation. Lochte swam in two events at the Rio Games, winning gold in the 4x200-meter freestyle relay.
after that abysmal performance from Lochte that cost me a 12 game streak, I don't feel bad for him! surprised there aren't more stories about crimes relating to the Games. http://streak.espn.com/en/entryStreaks?entryID=23913&segmentID=82 Thu Aug 11, 10:06 PM Rio Yes: Both Phelps and Lochte medal LOSS Wed Aug 10, 9:54 PM Rio No: No USA Swimmer Medals Win 12
Brazilian taxis have a rich American button. That's how the drivers make their money down there. Summon their "friends"
Sweden's Women Soccer Team defeated Brazil on PK's in the semi-final round. Germany leads Canada 1 - nil at halftime.
Kerri Walsh Jennings and April Ross really had no chance to win against the Brazil team. As the former was #3 and latter was #2. Plus the latter was playing in front of the home team. So that had a lot to do with it. The Brazilian duo was just way too good.
Rob, rape, shoot, no problem. Report a robbery string em up. Have no idea if the robbery was made up or not but Brazil is so worried about the reporting of crime in their country they are attacking the problem from the wrong side.
wow, well it should've been kinda obvious I guess after this part of Lochte's story: "And then the guy pulled out his gun, he cocked it, put it to my forehead and he said, 'Get down,' and I put my hands up, I was like 'whatever.'" Lochte's such a bad ass that even a gun at his forehead doesn't phase him
I never read that but to be honest you never know how you will react when a gun is pointed at you. When it happened to me my first reaction was to get pissed and lunge at the guy, granted he did not have it pointed at my head.
Lochte giving a black eye to the US Olympic team. First he delivers that embarrassingly bad performance, now he's making up stories about getting robbed.
Lochte is a pussy and needs to apologize to Brazil. The 32 yr old "kid" made up a story about being robbed and his first response was that he'll return to Rio if they find the guys who did this to him. Welp, it NEVER happened. Ran to U.S and left his teammates behind to correct the story. They are still in Rio right now and most likely have an angry mob following them because of this dumbass. Lochte makes Americans look bad. Start shit in other countries, blame someone else, then run home to shelter saying its not your fault. F him and how dare anyone defend him.
