The guy dominated everyone in the world for 20 years. Maybe I'm jaded, but it just seems too unlikely to be completely natural.
I hear ya. All the shit bags out there have ruined sports with their cheating that its causes doubt in success for here on out and makes anyone question greatness. That's the saddest part of all the cheating, not so much what they've done directly but indirectly with stuff like this. I just dont think Phelps is one of them
I'm not a big olympics fan, I only loosely follow basketball and soccer. It's basically a glorified skills competition that is extremely outdated. Archery, fencing, diving, curling, etc are some of the most useless skills imaginable in today's world. Bring in NFL style football and then I'll care about the olympics instead of watching these half-ass competitions of non sports.
I don't care for most of the skills events either. I like the Track & Field events and Weightlifting, especially when the big boys are jerking 500 + lbs.
football in the olympics would be pointless. everyone would be playing for 2nd place and the US would fucking steam roll the competition.
Wait... your complaint about Olympics is that it's useless skills competition and then you want bring in American Football. So... skills needed in American Football are pertinent in "today's world?" LOL If being useful in everyday life is your criteria, you should be advocating swimming, running, target shooting, jumping.
What a lame statement! Football (most of the world wonder why it's even called football) is pretty much played in one country in the whole world... the rest of the world doesn't really give a flying **** P.S. Totally enjoyed Fabian Cancellara destroy everyone in the men's time trial race this morning. 35 years old, his last season.. legend.
You're right, useless is the wrong word. I meant that many of the competitions are not really "sport like" and don't really appeal to me. As if I care which country can muster up the best badminton team. Some of it is definitely fun to watch, however. I just don't see most of the team sports as the highest level of competition, I suppose. No baseball either, so I'd rather watch the Mets game That's very true, although the NFL does have one thing going for it. Based on revenue, it's the #1 sports league in the world. I realize that doesn't make it the most popular, but I could see it eventually spreading over seas. It has a bigger following in the UK than most people realize.
Archery, fencing, diving and a lot of other events are actually skills that originated as having practical use at some point. The same can't be said for practically any aspect of NFL football.
yeah its an odd criticism of the olympics. If you dont like the events that's one thing but in terms of practical skills as a whole its actually a display of that. Maybe next year they'll put Excel Pivot Tabling in the Olympics haha
Rugby 7's bronze at 5:30 EDT, South Africa vs Japan Rugby 7's gold at 6:00 EDT, Great Britain vs Fiji For those looking for a hard fought team competition, i highly suggest watching or recording.. Rugby along with Beach v-ball have been my favorite events to watch so far. Water Polo, Judo and Weight lifting are interesting in doses too.
The USA Womens Soccer team plays Sweden today at 12:00 noon in a quarter final game. Go USA !!!!!! Watch out for those Skeeters, Hope.
