Defensive coordinators do better when their QB is already developed. From the Rex and Bowles years, they see young QBs as a liability and not as a ticket to a competitive team.

If that’s the case then forget drafting another QB. Go after Cousins in the free agency and actually let him run a decent offense. It will be a mistake to draft another QB that Bowles will never play or develop anyway.

That's why Bowles should not be brought back. Anyone with one iota of common sense or football knowledge knows that the Jets need to draft and develop a QB if they are to have long term, sustainable success. He has shown little growth or improvement, little acceptance of his weak areas or mistaken philosophies, and as you said, he will never work to develop a young QB. Cousins is not the answer. Neither is Bowles. Neither of them should be even a consideration.

possibly...but Bowles may have had a mutiny if he benched the better player.

Players have a vested interest in playing well and having their team play well. No one likes to be laughed at and mocked on social media the entire season. You can't ask players to play hard and continue their march towards CTE while the HC runs a grand experiment.

This is why HCs wait until the team has been eliminated b4 making such a change. But even then (see Giants) it could blow up in his face and get him fired the next day.

I would have LOVED to see Christian Hackenberg take 1st team reps last TC and start the season as #1. I'm sure MacCagnan wanted that too. But Bowles' hands were tied when McCown blew them away in front of God and Country and clearly earned the nod. Their hope at that point would be if McCown goes down early, giving rest of the season to the 2 kids on the bench.

I'm hoping 2018 is Hacks year to ditch the red jersey
