It was funny, after the Texans drafted Williams, the experts were all trying to calculate how many sacks it would take for Williams to tally in order to offset the decision of passing on Bush. They came up with 12-15 sacks a year.... So what they're basically saying, is that Mario will have to practically lead the league in sacks in order to equal the output / value of a RB like Bush. I don't see how you can say one is more important than the other. Just because some guy named G. Brandt says so, you beleive him???... Just take a look at your own team. Who's been more valuable to the Jets, RB C. Martin or DE J. Abraham???....
That was also my own opinion based upon 20+ years of watching games week in and week out, viewing extensive NFL Films, and reading many a football book. I simply used the Brandt quote because I was too lazy to dig into my posts from this past draft weekend and I wanted to give you something from a well respected NFL man. It is not just about sacks. It's also about stopping the run and pressuring the quarterback. Sacks are overrated. With that said, I think the Texans are silly for passing on Bush. I think Bush is a rare player. I think Williams might be good. (I wrote enough about this on the weekend. You can check out my back posts.) If all things are equal, you go for the DE over a RB. But all things are not equal here to me because I see Bush as a rare player.
sure is. Theres more productive RBs than there are DEs. Thats why Indy cut Edge lose, they can always plug in another back, but they couldnt afford to lose Dwight Freeney to free agency. And you cant compare Abe to Ricky. DEs are harder to get than RBs. Wasnt Shaun Alexander and Edgerrin James available for a 2nd rounder a year ago and no team bit...
So basically, in not so many words, you're conceding this debate over which position is more important???...
In the NFL we have this thing called a "salary cap". You may have heard of it, I don't know.... Another reason behind nobody biting was $$$$$$$$$$$....... It was a 2nd rounder + a very large contract. There's alot more to it than just saying "nobody bit on them because DE's are more valuable". It's doesn't work that way. I honestly believe that they are both important positions, but elite Rb's are far more difficult to come by than DE's...in my opinion.
Blitz, imagine if the fins traded a 2nd round pick for a 30 year old running back, who has failed about 4 drug/banned substance test, has retired from his team a few weeks before training camp and has show no stability when it comes to his mental health. How would you feel? You can't honestly tell me you would be happy if the fins made this move,it would be even worse than the Feeley trade. No GM in his right mind would make this trade,he has no upside, can't be trusted and is another failed test from never playing again.
Ummmmm.... no. You didn't read what I wrote. I believe Bush is head and shoulders a better RB than Williams is a DE. If I personally felt Bush was as good a RB as Williams was a DE, I would be applauding the Houston selection.
Yeah, there is a thing called the salary cap and clearly the Colts thought paying Freeney was more important than paying Edge. Colts clearly wanted Freeney more, its as simple as that As for you other comment, how much you want to bet every team would pounce on the chance to have Julius Peppers, Dwight Freeney, or Richard Seymour for a 2nd rounder EVEN IF they had a monster contract. Teams would make money to get those players, so there goes that argument
He will also be 31 in 2007. Who in there right mind will trade anything for this Guy ? Are you serious ? If you expect him to come back as the ricky of old your sadly mistaken. But then again your a fins fan, so you have to have that kind of outlook. Ok then
You have such clouded judgement in your arguments. I have read two posts you made today. One saying that John Abraham is just average and that we really hosed the Falcons by getting the 28th which is an absurd statement. And now this. His trade value will not skyrocket, and I dont see how losing an RB and getting him back when he is 30 years old is a great situation for the phins later......
Blitz, Ricky's career is OVER. How many chances do you think professional coaches are going to give this loser?? He's failed the drug test how many times now??? He obviously doesn't care about football. He isn't getting any younger either...
If we could transplant Curtis' head on Ricky's under utilized body the result would break Emmitts' rushing record:beer:
How old is your "First Ballot HOF" runningback i forgot? Oh yeah, and while you at it tell me what his stats were like last year? And now tell me Ricky's stats from last year? Im sure it doesnt bother you that ricky had more TDs than curtis with less carries, and over a whole yard better per carry. Sure blame it on your O-line all you want, but what about when ricky lead the nfl in rushing- are you gonna say we had an elite line then? Anyone who bashes Ricky over his talent is ignorant and borderline retarded. If your gonna bash him over anything, bash him over not staying clear from his bong.
i rarely agree with junc, be he's right on the money with any part of his argument. blitz...think of lincoln kennedy. ricky is about as tradeable as he is.
