Oh really, I could see how that conversation went down. “Hey Woody, I hired you the greatest GM candidate there is, but there’s just one more thing he needs. You need to hire me too so I can say yes to all his moves!”

The last thing any GM needs is to be looking over his shoulder wondering what the “expert” consultant thinks. It emasculates the position entirely, and I think Spielman knew it all along. What easier way to become GM that to offer up your services to be paid to find a GM and then insert yourself as the paid GM consultant afterwards. Hell, he gets to sit in his comfy home and do the job while Mougey takes all the bullets and handles all the press conferences. I gotta hand it to him, he knew Woody was a mark and he moved right in.

Spielman is a remote worker that lives in Florida. Your theory is really that he is managing the Jets front office AND coaching staff via Zoom meeting...

    get a clue

at least share why you think that truly insane theory is accurate instead of repeating it over and over in multiple threads as if its fact

I’m curious why you think he couldn’t be the GM from his home when it seems everyone was comfortable with him “finding” a GM for us from his home. As to why my theory is accurate- because he was hired to find us the best possible GM candidate. They interviewed experienced GM’s, declined to interview a couple strong candidate GM’s, and finally landed on hiring a guy that they feel so strongly about that he decided he’s gonna have to stick around to “consult” him. Yea, I’m not buying it.

uhhhh because actually doing the job and simply recommending the someone else to do the job are very different things/time commitments

Not when you have your own hand picked assistant sitting in the FO to do the work for you.

At this point it's academic what the reporting structure is. I do think the Spielman hire is a bad look after his firm was hired but that's stuff that will be looked at closely if the whole thing blows up again. Or when.

At this point though the thing that matters is that sound decision-making and cooporation at the top of the organization are happening. I don't care if Spielman is the undercover GM if it works.

The Jets have plenty to go around - the last thing we need is more.
