A QB getting hit a full stride out of bounds is a clear call 10/10 times. A DL continuing his momentum into a QB while the ball is being released is a judgement call that they got wrong. The fact that they're fining him for that hit is just absurd.

The league is being pussifed because the owners are afraid of being sued, or because the players actually sued? Does this fall on the owners or the players that sued?

Therein lies the problem. Rather than maybe cutting back on what these monsters are putting in their bodies or how coaches are teaching players to tackle or even glorifying "the big hit" they want to force senior citizens to make snap judgment calls on guys 300lb guys who run 4.9 40's.

I think it's a double edged sword, I'm not sure how old you are but in the 70's and 80's the league basically turned a blind eye to the rampant steroid abuse by teams like the Raiders/Steelers. Spearing and clothes lines were legal. The league knew these things were dangerous and did nothing about it. As players got smarter and realized there were serious health risks involved with playing the sport and the league knew but did nothing about it. There isn't even health insurance for guys when they are done playing. Yes guys sued because the league attempted to mask the serious health risks involved. There are reports they knew about the brain injuries (which would explain why they settled out of court) so now they are trying to legislate the game by pussifying it with penalties.

I guess what I am saying is that you can't blame the owners. For years they let the players act like gladiators and throw their bodies around, to the detriment of their futures. And that is what a lot of people want. Make them sign agreements, they get paid millions of dollars, let them play, etc. The ONLY reason that the owners are pussifying the game is because the players wised up and realized that it was literally killing them. They sued and it forced the owners to change the rules. It was done behind the guise of "protecting the players" when it was really done to protect the owners FROM THE PLAYERS. Had the players not sued and had their not been a public outcry, I don't think the owners would have made the game any more safe.

Generally, you'd need to possess the ability to count in order to be an accountant. Wouldn't give half the guys in the league the credit to be able to do so.

What a load of shit. I wish they would enforce penalties the same on both sides of the ball. The fact that RB can stiff arm and punch a dude in the face is legit but even a pinky grazing the QB's helmet is enough for a penalty and fine. RBs constantly lead with their head into defenders, but that's legit, but don't dare do that as a CB or LB! It's obvious that they want more offense and defense to have less of a factor in games. Fuck Goodell, he's destroying the integrity of the game. He doesn't care about safety, he cares about making money. If not he'd enforce the same contact rules for offense.

This. I understand the bad call in the game. It was wrong but wrong calls happen. What I don't understand is the fine after the fact when you can look at the replay.

    Bring back Paul Tagliabue.
