Worse for who, you as a fan? The Jets don't care one little bit. If they were as scared as some fans appear to be they wouldn't be saying it.
This is what I don't get. Why would fans be "scared" of anything. I am not playing, are you? Just because some people have different values does not make the scared. Love how Jets fans, shall we say, "same old Jets fans" revert to trashing one another for their personal beliefs.
Why do people get so worked up for over what a player on their favorite team says? Like you have some sort of ownership of it. Win lose or draw, it doesn't make a difference what Rhodes or Ryan or Jenkins say. If they lose, it's on them, not you. Perspective.
Lets go FJM style on this bad boy. It's too big (that's what she said) so Part 2 follows below. So far, so good. Even though, as a Jets fan, my hatred for Miami ranks right up there with that for the Cheaters of Boston, the fact that they've been so damn successful makes it a more potent rivalry. Fair point. Some early Jets wins? The series, you might remember, is tied at 49 wins apiece. Sure, the last decade has seen the Pats beat the Jets more often than not, but THEY'VE BEEN THE MOST SUCCESSFUL TEAM IN THE NFL. Frankly, the fact that the Jets have played close games, and more often than not have split the series with New England, is impressive enough on its own merits, considering the lack of success we've had. And self-destructive obsession? The only self-destruction came when we hired Mangini. Let's talk about how the Pats took Belichick right after he "resigned" from the Jets. Remember the early days, when Belichick was building that team? Who did he do it with but Jermaine Wiggins, Roman Pfiffer, Victor Green, Bryan Cox, Anthony Pleasant, Otis Smith. The pilfering is a two way street, asshole. And did it really matter if our special teams guys used to play for the Patriots? Was Matt Chatham's signing really earth-shattering news? You motherfucking douchebag. He said he wouldn't kiss the Patriots ring, and that's just about the only public statement he made on the Patsies. He also challenged Channing Crowder to a fight. What team does he play for? That's right, the division CHAMPION Miami Dolphags. And he more or less guaranteed that he'd win a superbowl. Oh, and he publicly said that The PATRIOTS had the edge with a better coach and QB. But yeah, taking shots is exactly what he's doing. And you said it yourself, this is a heated rivalry. What the fuck do you want Jenkins to say? That he's amped up, but not really, cause it's only Week 2? This game has a lot on the line, even an intern with down syndrome can tell that, right? You kinda said that already, and in fact, now you're describing them with the qualities you only referenced in passing above. Seriously, are these paragraphs out of order? Either that, or you feel like you have to clarify your key points from the sentences above before moving on, because they made negative sense before. As someone with a little journalistic experience, I'm seriously advising you to rethink your paragraph structure. Plus, for the first time, you sound more like a Jets fan than a Pats fan. You went from being extremely arrogant one way to the exact opposite extreme. Congratulations, you pulled a Lieberman. Yes, lets. Great start! I mean, this is a guy who scored two touchdowns in our upset in Foxboro a year ago, including a big kick return touchdown. He's a fun player to watch, and we've added a new wrinkle to the playbook just to get the ball in his hands more. You might want to mention that we've added this new thing, called the Seminole formation... Or you can do that. Yes, Kevin Faulk is a natural comparison. Except for the fact that Faulk is 34 years old, like 5th on the depth chart at RB for the Patriots, and was never very good to begin with. He's not dynamic, not explosive, not fast, but he's a great blocker and safety net on third and short, right? Yeah, Faulk's career high is 5 touchdowns, and Leon had 9 last year alone, but let's not let facts get in the way of making an intelligent assessment of player personnel. We like to compare Leon to Barry Sanders, you like to compare him to Kevin Faulk. Well, one of us is very wrong. What's the point? Should I bother explaining that New England doesn't have a very good defense this year? That Mangini criminally misused Leon during his time here? That the fact that he hasn't broken a big one against the Pats didn't stop him from torching you for two scores last time out? Whatever. I really have no idea what to do with this paragraph. You're telling us to watch out for Mark Sanchez, and then saying that he's virtually worthless. You're pretty much giving us the worst possible case scenario for Sanchez, and conveniently forgetting that your defense had a tough time with Trent Edwards last week. Yes, he's a rookie. Yes, there's a learning curve. No, I learned nothing from your pointless paragraph. I award you zero points, and you know the rest.
And Part 2: Way to use 78 words and say absolute nothing. Yes, Ellis is a very good defensive end. Yes, the Jets will use many different looks to get pressure on Tom Brady. Are there, like 5 other players you should've talked about here instead of Ellis if you're referencing getting pressure on Brady? Yup. But there's still more article left. I'm sure you did just that. Next up is probably Kris Jenkins, or Bart Scott, or David Harris or--- Swing and a miss. Okay, let me put myself in Greg Doyle's shoes. I'm writing an article about my team's hated enemy, and I want to educate them about a few players they should watch out for. Should I talk about their big acquisitions in free agency and through trades? Or should I talk about a fucking backup linebacker who's played 1 NFL game? Yeah, let's go with the latter. Yes, we like Westerman. But if you were talking to somebody about the Jets, would you REALLY bring his name up? Fuck that. It's pretty obvious you don't like Ryan. But to say his attitude has been pointless? Are you fucking kidding me? It's completely fired up a fanbase. We were sick and tired of that ex-Pat Mangini, and Ryan has come in and brought a smashmouth defense to the Jets that we haven't seen in DECADES. He's coaching this team like a leader, he's talking trash and backing it up! I'm not going to waste my time chronicling everything wrong with this paragraph, but Ryan has obviously gotten under the skin of at least one Patriot douchebag, so he's done his job already. Fuck you. That's really all I can say. Fuck you. Who should I trust as to Leonhard's worth, the coach who drafted him, and brought him over, as a free agent, from his old team, or a fucking writer for the Patriots website? That's a tough one. Maybe it's pointless statements like this that are the reason you're not writing for the Globe, fucktard. Let's see, he started for the best defensive unit in football a year ago, so he obviously wasn't a liability then, no was he? And of course you conveniently forget to mention that he rotates with Eric Smith, who at 6'1 and 209 pounds is certainly big enough for you. The first true statement you've made in this entire article! *Note: that may have not been in the original text.
What personal beliefs are they? I was making an argument against someone saying it would be worse for the Jets because they said something. Worse in what way exactly?
49-49-1...unless you're refering to last years score. If you're only counting regular season, it's Jets 49- Pats 47
To be fair, Mangini did make adjustments in that game. I noticed that he moved his hands from his hips to his chest a number of times while I might add, he continued to chew his Big Red. .
This whole argument is pretty simple to me as I have said earlier. Some people just don't believe in talk, they believe in action. That is their beliefs. Yet for having those beliefs they are trashed as "scared"? Scared of what? I am not playing in this game, I will be sitting watching the game, not actually on the field. I want the Jets to win, I want them to crush the Patriots by the widest margin possible. But this whole argument that fans are scared is just plain silly. So what? Talk is cheap, talk is great? In the end it will be decided on the field, not in the papers.
Who is scared? It stinks of little brother syndrome. It reminds me of Redsox fans, actually. And no it's worse for the person saying it, Don. "I'm gonna do this, I'm gonna do that.,....BLam oh shit I got my ass kicked after saying I was gonna do this and that....." wow that's a real confidence builder 2 weeks into the season. If they really believed it, they wouldn't be selling it so hard. Will they beat the Pats? Who knows, maybe they will. I'm sure after it's all said and done there will be a 4 dozen jerk-offs on either side saying "told ya so..." It's just a stupid thing to do, in my opinion.
Don't blow your emotional load before you even step on the field. Especially from Kerrry Mud-Fucker Rhodes. When he does something worth fucking talking about, maybe he can talk. I don't know about NE, but he's already embarrassed me.
If the Jets win on Sunday, they'll say that it was because of their confidence; if the Patriots win, they'll say it was because of being fired up. The truth of the matter is that it will be because of execution and game plans. I really don't care at all about Ryan talking, since he's not out on the field. As Winston pointed out, however, it's a little strange that Rhodes is doing it, since even if the Jets win he could still end up looking very foolish out there.
I don't think Rex said anything out of line really. Treating it like the "superbowl" is kinda ghey though, and not really smart. Rhodes on the other hand is fuckin mediocre and should prove he can be dominant before acting like he's dominant.
You attach your self-worth to players that easily? Shit, if that embarrasses, you probably lived in an asylum for most of the 80s and 90s. Rhodes is pumped and he's showing it. I don't remember too many people getting embarrassed with Bart Scott talking shit. They're going to do it, because their coach is doing it. You may as well get used to it, because it isn't going to change until we win some championships or Ryan is fired.
Oh believe me, I sat in front of the TV every week in the 80s and 90s. It has little to do with my self worth. It has all to do with Rhodes' self-worth. Don't tell me, show me. Treating this like the superbowl? C'mon man, you of all people can't hear that and think it's a positive. it's game 2. They still have another game to play against these fuckin guys and 14 overall. How about they treat it like game 2 of the season against a tough divisional opponent. There's something to be said about blowing your load through your mouth before a battle. Edit: And nothing for nothing....talking shit, when you haven't proven shit is just that...shit.
