You are really out of touch if you think the head coaches most important job is to get his guys fired up. Get your head out of the sand.

This exactly, I really don't think Rex is the problem, he hasn't had a QB his entire tenure, no coach in this league is winning with consistently the bottom QB play in the league year to year.

But at the end of the day the team is 1-6 and Rex will need to go for it, the team has regressed and done worse basically year to year, as the captain of the ship it's his head, every coach signs up for that when they take the job.

I think it's funny there are Jets fans that are willing to give up on Geno Smith halfway through his second season, but not Rex, who has been making the same mistakes now for 5 years now.

Well, let's not get carried away now... The team has lost 6 straight games and is damn near out of contention in early October.

I was ready to see him fired after the SD debacle, but two relatively well-played, well-coached games against top opponents has me at least wanting to see what the rest of the season brings. The schedule "softens" from here on out and I'd really like to see this team get on a roll; I wouldn't put it past them.

But if this team continues to tailspin and lose, I don't think you can bring him back regardless of how much "heart" the team shows.

If you fire Rex, this team will become a perennial cellar dweller. Only thing keeping us a float is Rex.

    Completely agree.

There's too much to lose by firing Rex.

Rex Ryan is making the same mistakes he made as a rookie head coach 5+ years ago. He runs the most undisciplined team in the NFL. The team has gotten steadily worse over his tenure. He continues to say stupid things and make an ass of himself and a joke of the organization. He completely ignores the offensive side of the ball. He continues to support players long past the point of realization that they are hurting the team.

    YOU'RE RIGHT! CONTRACT EXTENSION!

I really run hot and cold on Rex. After the SD loss, I wanted him gone. After the last 2 games, I'm having second thoughts. The Jets are simply not talented enough to win consistently. That combined with some really tough breaks - key injuries, calls that didn't go their way, turnovers, etc. - and you have a 1-6 team. There are a few things that I keep coming back to....
    1. What would be a reasonable expectation for this season based on the talent (or lack of)? 6-10? 7-9??
    2. What other coach is out there that gets you excited? Are they willing to coach the Jets?
    3. Has Rex lost the players?? At this point (and it's still early) I say no. I don't see players throwing each other under the bus and I don't see players bailing on what seems to be a lost season.
    4. Where would teams like Cincinnati be if they had given up on their HC after a few tough seasons? I don't know about you guys but I am so fed up with going through the coaching carousel every 3-5 years.

If you ask me right now, at this very moment - I would not be upset to see Rex get another chance with a better roster.

I'm talking of the Raiders/Jacksonville variety.

So now Rex blitzing so much is the reason where 1-6? Yea okay pal. Where 1-6 because we have average talent on offense and a shitty secondary.

Rex played zone pretty much all game the last 2 weeks and we still got smoked. I'm not saying Rex should get zero blame but it really comes down to the players, mainly in the secondary aren't executing.

I think the question you have to ask yourself is, can he coach a complete team to a Super Bowl if he had the roster. Not playoffs, Super Bowl.

Or if you think him being the head coach of the chargers or broncos would make those teams better, worse or the same.

I think he's a good DC but his game management skills aren't good enough even with a good roster to win it all in my opinion.

Umm – we gave the Patriots about as good a game as the Raiders did – and their defense was much more banged up against us.

We now consider loses “good games”. That is the perfect indicator that a 6th season coach needs to be fired.

This team is like 27-43 in its last 70 games. (could be slightly off, someone posted that stat yesterday) How is that afloat though?

too stupid to require comment. No playoffs the last 3 years and now 1-6 this year. And you want more of the same?
