    yawn

Has't everyone realized by now that he's not bragging or even boasting. Rex is one of those guys who believes that if he doesn't think that he, or his team is the best, then it'll never happen. He is all about having confidence. You have to say it first and believe it to do it. Remember when he got the job and announced "we have the best CB in football? None of us felt that way at the time but it became true after that.

I'm getting sick of the big headlines anytime Rex speaks with confidence. They try to make him and our team look like jackasses. When he says things like that it's not even a big deal anymore.

Here's the problem Loge. There is NOTHING wrong with Rex "believing" that he is the best, his team is the best, and letting THEM know it. What is stupid and unnecessary is to be constantly broadcasting that message to the media. Because when it isn't backed up, its not the media that makes the team and organization look like jackasses....its Rex.

The key word here is "unnecessary". Rex simply can't help himself. He is a reporter's dream. They never have to work to create story lines for the Jets. Rex does it for them. Its one thing to have a big personality, but another thing to constantly create issues where none need to be. These are distractions, and one of the jobs of a HC is the elimination of all distractions, not cause them.

There may be a point in time where Rex realizes that all his "talk" causes more problems than it cures. Maybe in his next job. But right now, Rex acts like a DC who can't wait to finally get to talk, to the media, and if he doesn't say something outrageous or interesting to them, they'll never let him speak again.

He said nothing wrong at all. the media yet again distorts his words, but it doesn't even matter since nobody really cares about this stuff anyway.

And how do you know how this affects his players mentality? Cromartie seemed pretty quick to back up his boss. Maybe it's a motivator. I don't see how "I think I'm the best defensive minded coach" causes an issue, or distracts the players. His reputation as a great defensive mind is already known, he didn't say anything that wasn't assumed or known.

No need, I already know your response will hit one of three predictably sniveling dickiess themes:

    1. "Compared to the way the Patriots do things, this is no reason to root for the Jets."

    2. "Based on my comprehensive experience Sanduskying little boys, I can tell you this isn't the way to run a football team."

    3. "That's it, attack the messenger because you CAN'T HANDLE THE TRUTH."

Seriously, dude, your schtick is tired. We root for the Jets. We know this isn't the model franchise. You're like a Yankee fan lecturing Mets fans in spring training. You add nothing. Go away.

To be fair, it was only as a defensive coordinator. So he shouldn't be talking about him being a good defensive coach..right?

And what do you think counts as being the best? Perhaps helping win a superbowl for a team that barely had an offense? Rex didn't do that?

It's funny when flacco claims hes the best qb in the league and people don't get offended while adding "that's what you'd expect ur qb to think like", but when it comes to Rex, who clearly has plenty of credentials to be considered #1 in the league by many, people want him to stay quiet?

    To be really fair...

He wasn't the defensive coordinator when the Ravens won the SB, he was the defensive line coach. Marvin Lewis was the defensive coordinator when they won the SB until, then Mike Nolan got the DC job ahead of Rex from 2002 to 2004 after being the WR coach in 2001 and DC for the Jets in 2000.

Rex became the DC in Baltimore in 2005, well after they had already established themselves as a great defense. Not saying he didn't do some good work there, but he didn't create that defense.
