It's clear that alot of you guys have a hard-on for Kerry and just don't like him period. If KR & RR said nothing, you would ASSume he's leaving and Rex told him to kick rocks. If KR comes out and addresses the media speculation (after getting approval & clearance by the Jets) and he clarifies by being open, honest and forthright, he's full of shit and covering something up. He clearly stated he wants to come back and the Jets want him back. And then....instead of a 1 sentence statement, he went on to discuss in-depth, what his thinking was, beyond just wanting to be back and went extensively into the situation at hand and his thought process and reflection. And b/c of that you say he's being an attention-whore and a primadonna. Seems like with alot of Jets "fans" on here, if you're Kerry, you're damned if you do, damned if you don't. At least just be honest and say "I just don't like the guy." Instead of making up falsehoods.

The results were Rhodes getting owned like a bitch in the back of the endzone on that early touchdown. He was a shitty cover safety this season, although you clearly are too much of a hind-tit-sucking fanboy to understand that. Kerry Rhodes' nuts are too small for even an underdeveloped mosquito to ride.
As a matter of fact, this doesn't screw up people's arguments, it enforces it. If Rhodes was so diligent about studying and he played like shit for most of the season, then it goes to show just how much he doesn't seem to get this system. After he got benched, he made some plays and played better than really bad, which in this case would raise it up to the level of decent. He didn't start getting noticed until Rex Ryan started playing him closer to the line, and playing the run. He made some plays, had some strip-sacks, and created some fumbles, but we already have 2 other safeties that do that in Eric Smith and Ihedigbo. He's good at covering TE's one-on-one, that's for sure over all other Safeties (except maybe Leonhard), but he's completely lost in zone coverage. Add the fact that he's lousy at tackling and you have nothing but a subpar, 'look-at-me', safety that's earning top S dollars. I'm all for keeping him unless we get great value back for him in a player or Draft, but to assume that Rhodes is good and will get better is just crazy. And please, spare me the stats. Stats don't show who the hard-hitters are, and when and how said player makes plays. Rhodes has a full season of tape to show just how crappy he was.

The problem is, stats don't measure "heart." :wink: I don't consider most people on this site fools, to be totally honest. And that includes most, if not all the Rhodes detractors. The problem is, people have it stuck in their heads that Rhodes sucks, that his off-field personality is too much interference for him and the team on the field, and that Rex just plain doesn't like him. All of those things are completely impossible to quantify without completely inferring it based on an interpretation of something they saw. That's not stupidity, that's just blind hate. I get it. I don't agree with it, but I get it.
Personally, I don't think he's a bad player. He's got plenty of talent, and there's plenty he can bring on the field. But, like every other position, there's plenty of stuff that isn't captured by stats. I saw him get beat a few more times this year than I'd like. Not just the Colts game, although it certainly looked like he missed his assignment on that one touchdown (I can see the play in my mind but don't recall who made the completely undefended catch). The Jaguar game comes to mind. Those sort of lapses don't show up on his stat sheet, but they certainly show up on the coaches film. Generally speaking, he should be a strength of this defense, but doesn't seem to be playing like it. More than once this year, when the secondary has had a bad day, the players have blamed it on a failure to communicate. Given that Rhodes is the one who's around the clubhouse the least (see Pettine's comments if you think thats false) and that Leonhard, our other starting safety, is the one with by far the most experience in this defense, I don't think its a leap to guess that Rhodes is at the center of that problem (not to mention how every time a big play happens, he's on the ground looking at his teammates with his hands in the air going, "what happened?") If you accept what Rhodes had to say yesterday at face value and believe that he said all there is to say, then basically, he never should have been benched, and Ryan wouldn't have had to hedge at all when asked if he wants Rhodes here. But those things did happen. There's obviously more to it than, I want to be here and they want me here. Whether or not this all results in a trade is obviously up in the air, but personally, I'm not betting against it. There are plenty of talented players around who wouldn't be forced to "humble themselves" in order to meet with their position coach. Honestly, with Thurman's track record, you'd think Rhodes would be sleeping on his couch, but apparently he's too big to even meet with him. Like Ryan said at his last press conference, he's not going to beg anybody to do anything, and if you don't study, prepare and play up to the standards of the clubhouse, you're an outcast and you're gone. Whether or not those comments were addressed to Rhodes, they certainly seem to apply to him.
Setting aside my Thursday morning blind Kerry Rhodes hate for a moment, this is probably the most fair, most intelligent, and most objective post in this thread.

Yes sir....not to mention that I've seen Jim Leonhard more than a few times giving Rhodes a "What the fuck?" look complete with matching body language after a blown coverage related big play.
