It seems like he wants a big apology from NY fans and for them to beg that he stays here. If you want to stay, just fucking stay. If you want to leave, then leave. No need for the drama and for you to look like a media whore
This probably means Rex told him he wants him to be a jet if he pulls his act toghether and be a good team-mate and he needs time to think wether he wants to continue being a whiny bitch or be serious about his football playing...
Basically Kerry talked for 3 minutes but didn't say much He says the team and Rex want him there and he liked being there but he doesn't think he's a great fit for whatever reason... I'm not sure, brings up the dispute he had with the coordinators. Talks about being humbled by benching, saying he could go somewhere else and improve the team, ultimately wants to be a Jet player but isn't clear. Guy asks him about not being a physical safety: Kerry compares himself to an Ed Reed type player who doesn't go downhill and knock your teeth out but makes big plays. Says he likes Rex and wants to end his career as a Jet but says, 'sometimes circumstances happen and will have to go through talks but he wants to be here and the team wants him here' My opinion: Kerry's gone
Sounds to me like he doesnt really want to be a Jet, but he doesnt want to come out and say it. Even though he says he wants to be here as of now, it doesnt sound like hes committed at all. Wouldnt surprise me to see him get traded this offseason.
Rhodes on Wheelhouse: -Says Jets want Rhodes -Options were: can request a trade if he wants -"I like New York, they drafted me...etc." -"I'm going to meet with Rex and talk about it." -Benching: It humbled me. I had to learn from it. It was good for me and made me better. It was a tough tole on my psyche. -He says he doesn't give a crap about -"I really do want to be here...to end my career." -"Rex is my guy. I like Rex." It seems like he's still thinking about it and he wants to re-evaluate his role. Basically, it seems like he's looking for Rex to sell him on staying with the Jets and making sure he knows what his role is in the system and whether or not he feels that the system is right for him. It's going to be on him to request the trade.
Plus he had already said the team told him they wanted him back after I think one of the Bengals games... what do we have to od? Get on our knees and pray him? Please someone coff up a 2nd rounder!
Also wanted to add, the text we're writing here related to what Kerry said doesn't tell the whole story. The guy just looked like he was bullshitting the whole time and keeping the Jets happy.
That was pretty much the "sell me on this, Rex" aspect of it, as far as I saw. No real information out of this but it did seem as though he was actually giving it some thought. If he decides to request a trade, I don't know what we can get for Rhodes right now.
Ed Reed is not a Ronnie lot-type player, he's not going to lay big hits on people but he is going to get them down(Hey, I'm not the only one who looks like crap tackling). He makes plays(thinks he can get INTs like Reed).
Word for word: Announcer: I've heard different players may have said this and I've heard different people say, 'Maybe Kerry Rhodes isn't a Rex Ryan guy, not a physical safety, maybe too concerned about the outside stuff, maybe football's not his first love'... is that a valid criticism? Kerry: Uh, that's not a valid criticism. Uh, I think uh, you go and look at Ed Reed tape and I'm not tryin to put myself in his situation again but just go look at how he plays and uh-yeah is he a Ronnie Lott safety thats just gonna come down downhill and hit you, no hes not hes a guy who makes plays hes gonna make tackles hes gonna get the guy down, thats the same type a guy I am so if you wanna go that way I guess Ed Reed wasn't this type of guy either so I mean you can list all types of stuff from other people but the people who really know the truth are the guys that are in the room and me and coach and all that stuff so at the end of the day I dont really care what people say outside take that as you will
Someone should've just said, "Ed Reed makes 10x as many plays as you. He's a significantly better football player than you are Kerry." Rex shouldn't (and I don't he think he would) have to sell Kerry on anything. If he can't see that Rex's defense is a defensive player's dream, he's a tard.
Rhodes is a joker. I think he's trying to set it up with the "I wanna stay here, but we'll see what happens" comment so when they finally announce that he'll be traded, he can say, "Hey, I wanted to stay here but they wanted me out."
I can't believe I came back to my PC to check up on this shit. Kerry is a joke. Shit or get off the pot, it's the fucking NFL, go back to college if you need "hostesses" to fluff you
Yeah, I thought he, in a round-about-way, said that he the same type of player Ed Reed was. He's out of his goddamn mind. And if people "in the room" are saying the same thing, they're out of their fucking minds. Maybe that's why Rex fired some of those coaches. They were feeding Rhodes horseshit.
My guess is that Rhodes has been granted a request for a trade, he was told to keep his mouth shut. If teams know Rhodes has demanded a trade, it drops his value in terms of what the Jets might get for him. Ryan probably told him, fine, we'll trade you, but don't let it be known. If we can't get some value, you're gonna stay right here. You want out, keep yer trap shut.
I agree that Rhodes is not even in the same ballpark as Reed, but I wouldn't put it past Rex to be the one telling Rhodes that he is as good as Reed. Rex talks up his players every chance he gets. Not saying it's a good or bad thing, but I remember Rex mentioning Reed and Rhodes in the same sentence more than once.
