I must admit, going for it on 4th down on your own 40 when you're up by 7 against the BEARS DEFENSE was pretty fucking lame... Part of the reason why our defense sucked so bad was because we were giving them great field position on almost every possession up until the last quarter.
Defense never showed up. Tackling, or should I say lack of it, was terrible. Greene should be the #1 back no doubt. Running LT near the end of the game was a joke.
That one had me cursing at the TV. WTF would you want to do that, especially early in the game? Ridiculous.
Hasn't been good but this team has more late game wins this season than Herm ever did so I can't put Rex on Herm's level right now. I also have confidence that he will get better because he isn't afraid to admit his mistakes. I never had confidence that Herm would fix his clock issues.
Rex has a lot to learn about being a head coach and how to manage a game but it's to be expected since he's only in his second year.
It would be SO nice to see both the offense and defense show up to play atleast once a season. It's always something with this team. I don't know how many times I said yesterday, "please defense, just stopped them once".
Last year I was very impressed with his late game decisions but he seems to have regressed this year. The second they wasted their last timeout with 2:48 left I received about 10 texts mentioning how awful that was. If 20 of us know what to do from playing Madden a few times, how can professional head coaches? (For those of you confused, the Bears would have called a play and then had to call another before the 2 minute warning, allowing us to have a full timeout left when they punted after the warning, instead of no timeouts and 1:10 left)
At the end of the 3rd Qtr, why don't you run another play? We just watch 20+ seconds run off the clock. I get using the end of the Qtr to organize a specific play on the sideline, but it sucks watching the clock run off.
i dont think there was much of a sense of urgency in this game since the playoffs were all but locked up
Apparently, your biggest fan follows this board AND the team in the off season as well, unlike you. I hate darksiders and I'm sure this board knows that by now. As for Rex's clock management deficiencies and the team overcoming them, you do know he inherited a team that went 1-4 in its last 5 games before Rex took over, and has played almost all the game with a rookie QB. Im pretty sure Rex deserves some credit for that. He's a 2nd year HC. He is not a polished HC, but he is far better than any other 2nd year HC imo. Have you seen the threads you have created on this board? Every single one of them shows your love for the team. Jumping on the Patriots bandwagon might help.
I don't buy into most of the second year stuff. Too much of an excuse. Ryan had many years to prepare for a head coaching job. The NFL, especially in this era, can stand for Not For Long. Most coaches don't have 5-year plans like they did in the 1950, 60s, and 70s.
You would have beaten the jills at home next week. They aren't that good...We make bad teams look great.
I agree that it's an excuse, and it's a win-now league. But Rex has been winning at a pretty good rate while grooming in a young quarterback. He does have clock management, but I do think that can be fixed with experience. He's had time to prepare for head coaching jobs, but these are things he probably isn't thinking about. These are the types of things you can afford to learn on the job, as long as you win in the meantime.
I don't think anyone of us knows exactly how much say Schotty has when it comes to calling TOs (i.e., who needs to shouder/share blame), but this aspect of the Jets' game management this season has been quite weak. I thought the clock management vs. the Steelers and Miami the last 2 weeks was suspect, too. It is even more frustrating because it's easily fixed, too! Even casual football fans can spot this deficiency.
I'm pretty sure there is software to handle situations like this. If there's not, I'll write it for a small fee! The Jets should have someone in the booth running situations through that software and talking to Rex. Rex should be able to figure it out on his own, but Tannenbaum should provide him with every tool available to make his job easier and to let him focus on the x's & o's.
I agree and think you pretty much hit it on the head. Calling that play was atrocious, and for which no plausible excuse can be made. Shoot, the Miami game 2 weeks ago should have been all the reminder we needed about the importance of the field-position battle (although I think Weatherford had a good game vs. the Bears).
