So you're saying that everything Rex said was all PC Company Mandated Lines? So the stuff about him stopping with the Guarantees, getting into the class-room to learn, and stuff like that was all just fluff and he didn't mean it....right? good grief.....
do you think the stopping the guarantees wasnt driven by the upper management? it was just a no fireworks blah interview. and i dont blame him one bit for it. im a little glad he ate a little crow and he usually takes responsibility so that was no surprise. i just dont see how this interview is making so many people so warm and fuzzy inside. its really not a big deal, i still like rex and still think he can and will do a great job. this interview just didnt do anything for me.
^ I heard Rex on 1050 driving from work, then I got home and watched him on Francesa. Rex used the exact same verbiage, phrases, and stories in both interviews. It was all scripted. So yeah I'd say the front office played a role in all of this.
Sounds right to me. I thought most of the people on this board realized that you can't believe a word Rex says publicly anymore at some point during or at the end of the season. I really thought he came off as contrite, and willing to change on Fatty's show which surprised me. It was actually weird. Considering all the bad publicity the Jets have had the past few weeks, it wouldn't surprise me at all if they agreed to let Rex go on these shows if he agreed to follow said script. It's actually pretty smart PR.
^ what concerns me is if all this PR business was just that...PR business. 'Cause if he actually LIED about him making the necessary changes to be a better coach, I will be very upset. I'm going to take what he said at Face-value and BELIEVE HIM that he will now legitimately change his ways and not take the attitude of some here who don't believe a word he says publicly. Somewhere, he has to have told the truth....It can't be all LIES. It just CAN'T.
For Rex to go on Fatty’s talk show and admit to what he has to change/why and not follow through would be just straight up retarded. For him to publicly come out and say that he has to be a coaching HC and not some overseer, cut the guarantees and make the team an actual TEAM is an achievement in its self. If he (or PR) recognized these problems publicly, there arent going to just go back to what failed last year. You do have to take what Rex said for what it’s worth, but at the same time, today’s interview was about as successful as you could ask at this point.
Oh I understand fully. It's just that the others here think he's lying through his teeth and this is just PR spin.
Yeah... I dont know how he could publicly admit to something so truthful while it being a lie. Now Im sure PR gave him restrictions on what to say blah blah blah, but at the same time, they probably reached a conclusion together on how he needs to change as a HC and thats what we heard today.
My issue is we are just a few weeks removed from Tanny being on Fatty's show and swearing up and down that Shotty would make a great HC. Tanny said if he didn't, gosh darn, he will be the Jets OC next year. Every Jets fan knew that was horse shit at the time, and it proved to be horse shit not long after. The Jets, however, swore up and down it was truth at the time. I'll give Rex the benefit of the doubt, but anyone with common sense would question the Jets organizations motives at this point. A Rex "script" is certainly not out of the question.
^ Well let's just say that it is a "script". Doesn't mean that what he said are LIES, does it? Remember all that rambling Rex did on Fatty's show? He's not exactly a rhodes scholar when it comes to speaking so I think he was at least given some guidelines by Woody on what could be said and what NEEDED to be said. Woody expects Rex to follow through on everything stated(another thing to consider.....script or no script).
1 week ago Rex was asked if he would change his coaching style and he responded basically: "No. I am who I am. I believe in what I say, I'm not afraid to say what every other coach thinks, so I will say in the media because I am only being truthful." Now I'm not saying Rex is a liar. But yesterday he has this huge epiphany based on what LT said on Showtime and he goes on the one show the Jets boycotted for two seasons. You don't think his change of heart was expedited by the front office who was feeling the pressure from the media? They go on Francesa to make amends because Francesa led the charge on the negative Jets media. I'm not saying Rex is bullshit, I'm just saying this was a PR stunt and you are blind if you think otherwise. Last, this was a great move by the team. release some of the steam. I'd love Francesa to get a Holmes interview.
I got this feeling before and after the interview as well. The Jets are PR obsessed, and for Rex to do this on Francesa's show screams publicity stunt. Rex seemed pretty sincere during the interview, but it's a complete reversal from the talk he was making a week ago. Seemed like damage control.
You can't keep barking and not bite... He needs to tone it down regardless...still being himself just more so behind closed doors
Hi all, First post here. I have been following you guys for a few years now as a Pat's fan who likes to know what the current chief divisional rival is up to on a week to week basis. You guys have made me laugh (sometimes with and sometimes at), given me some insights into the Jets, and helped me follow whats going on there. So, thank you for that. I think it is impossible to know what is going on in Rex's head, but to me this would be a welcome sign indeed. Maybe it turns out to be more talk or spin or something forced down his throat, but for right now I think it makes sense to accept it either as some introspection on his part or some process between him and the team that is resulting in a change in pr and perhaps coaching philosophy. Either of those are good things (if you are a jets fan) and it might allow next year for the discussion to get back to x's and o's and the product on the field rather than what Rex said or if he is full of shit or brilliant in getting inside people's heads. Coaches need to grow and develop and almost like a snake shed layers of skins as they learn the tricks of the trade at the HC level. Rex has shown he is a very good to excellent defensive coordinator and someone who has been able to command the respect of his players (a little questionable this year). It seems he has a lot to learn about overseeing a whole team (managing his staff, accepting responsibility for the whole team, interacting w the media on a daily basis, and working within an organization). Probably not too surprising given it is his first head coaching job. Early success blinded him and others t the need for this development, but recent failings have driven it home. Looking from the outside in, it seems to me (regardless of win loss) this coming year will tell us a lot about the development of Rex Ryan the coach to master his trade. Honestly, I hope it works out well for him and for you guys. I love the AFC East and would love to see it where 3 of the 4 or 4 of the 4 teams are smashing the hell out of each other and everyone else when they play. While much of the attention has been focused on Rex, I think the larger issue for you folks is Tannenbaum. He loaded this team up around the uncapped year and now you guys are dealing with some of the fallout on the roster. I have been converted to the Pats method (build the lines, avoid super high priced/high risk free agents, and build an ethos of everyone does their job). The Jets seemed the last couple years to have a lot of names, a lot of egos, a lot of drama. Anyway, my two cents on Rex and his interview. Thanks for letting me in to post yesterday and for being able to read you all the past couple years.
I'm now pretty certain professional football as a spectator sport isn't going to survive the internet.
