Completely agree. We'll just have to wait and see to what happens going into next season if that's the attitude he'll actually take.
Rex sounds too much like a politician in this interview (newyork.cbslocal.com/audio-on-demand/mike-francesa-1/#) so my bs-radar was on. Around the 1:40 mark, Rex is talking about whether the locker room was toxic (re: LT's remark) and he says it wasn't pervasive throughout the locker room. But then later on in the interview, he repeats what he said a few weeks back about not having a handle on the team. I have a hard time reconciling these two statements. If you don't have a handle on your team, how do you know if what's happening in the locker room is pervasive or not? That whole segment about Sanchez sounded like a bad balancing act, but in fairness, Rex either had to knock his qb or say the owner doesn't know what he's talking about. So I'll give him a pass on that. Around the 16:20 mark, he's asked if he'll be more careful about picking players with questionable character. He's goes on to say that his strength is being able to coach anybody but then says he failed in that. If he failed in that area, maybe it's not really his strength despite what he thinks about himself. If he's going to continue to pick talented troublemakers, what happened this season might not look so bad compared to what may be coming ...and it sounded to me like he still believes he can pull that off. It will be interesting to see how things unfold next season. If Rex can recover from this, kudos to him, but I think it's going to be a tough sell. If Holmes was the a-hole some are saying he was, Rex loses credibility with some players for not dealing with it and allowing it to fester all season long. Credibility lost is hard to regain. Rex might be a great coach someday, but it might require a fresh start somewhere for it to happen. PhinFan in NY
It's cool. I didn't come here expecting any love. If I was looking for love, I'd have picked a different name. Hell, I root for you guys to eat turf every Sunday and don't expect any different in return ...that's what rivals do. So I don't love the Jets, but I do love the rivalry.
I appreciate you coming in here and writing this dolphin turd of a post - but in all honesty, dolphins fans wouldn't know what a good coach looked like. It must be hard watching Rex, in a messy downward spiral of a season, go 8-8.
If Holmes is a total a-hole they would get rid of him.... Maybe it's coming. Maybe Holmes is on double secret probation and/or they will try to get anything they can for him. They can never reveal every intention and what's up their sleeves. Personally I think Rex is a great coach and think he pulls it together. I think Sparano is a great match with the offense to simplify things and get back to smash mouth / play action / take a shot - That's ALL I wanted from Schott and he always had to be cute and out smart everyone.. rarely taking advantages of opponents weaknesses. As much of a "Disaster" and "Meltdown" people percieve the finish to the season to be, they were a Victor Cruz play and some momentum away from being back to the spot they were the year before with a punchers chance. So much went wrong that I think a fine tune in just the little things gets this team another win or 2... Penalties, play calling, Defensive lapses, Special teams... on and on. I expect more than just a fine tune in those areas though... I expect a better Defense from Rex and a better pass protection from a team that certainly knows they need to add more OL pieces. And I expect even just another uptick in Sanchez with the given time and a better deep threat. Personally, I have a feeling when it comes down to the pres season / training camp / FA's and Draft I'll go into this next season with every bit of Optomism as last granted I hoped for 10 wins not the 12-13 of others. I'm typically a Darksider fan who bitched all season and really didn't enjoy 1 game - that said, I expect playoffs next year - As close as it was this year given the "disaster".. next year it's there for the taking.
If the cap hit weren't as severe as it would be, I think they'd do just that. Apparently, there was a reason the Steelers let him go cheap.
I thought it was because he was a cancer but it was more as a way to deflect attention away from Ben's "indiscretions" off the field(*cough*rape*cough*) than anything else.... looks like it worked....
Yep. In that scenario, because he was a little whiny bitch, Holmes became the perfect scapegoat to appease the bloodthirsty masses and basically get away with whatever "indiscretions" Ben committed. It was the perfect crime.
Holmes was a perfect teammate and had a great relationship with Sanchez in 2010. Will be interesting to see whether they think they can get that guy back.
Holmes IS a total asshole and the CAN'T get rid of him without crippling the cap and depleting the talent on the roster. It is a situation brought upon by bad judgment and now the bed is made. Sucks.
Holmes does not present as bad a situation for the Jets as the Giants were facing in 2006 (after Eli's third year) and well into 2007, (when Jerry Reese called him skittish) Admittedly, the Giants were able to get rid of Barber and had Shockey sustain an injury which also helped chemistry, but they did keep another player of dubious character - Burress- who actually got himself together and made a positive impact. I honestly do not believe that Holmes is as much of a "Cancer" as he is being made out to be, and he is capable of toeing the line (see 2010) Jets know what they have to do. Rex knows what he has to do. They can get it together without chucking Holmes.
Of course I'm going with this 'cause it's the truth. At first I thought that he was a Cancer over in Pittsburgh but Big Blocker(you know him?) provided me with info stating the situation which proved my assumption otherwise. He was dealt away because the Steelers brass believed(rightly so) that he exacerbated the entire situation involving Big Ben so they traded him for basically a song & a dance to take some of the heat off of Big Ben. and guess what? It worked...as it turned out.
