As much as Rex's posse is trying to blame the 3-11 on Idzik most orgs will probably know enough to see through that. Unless the Fins fire Philbin (a guy I think has done a pretty good job with marginal talent-I wouldn't mind trading them Rex for Philbin) and as rumored might bring in a Tanny-Rex combo (then why not a Tanny-Rex-Mark trifecta) I see Rex probably taking a lucrative TV deal. If Woody fires him then he makes $3 mil for not coaching next season plus a lot from either a network or ESPN.

That's the issue right there, he NEVER adjusted, when I saw him leave Allen one on one against Watkins against the Bills it highlighted the reason why he does not need any more opportunities as a HC.

It's what cost the jets the game against the Vikings also, his compulsion with blitzing. I have no problems with pressuring the QB, but he is so predictable that it's easy for teams to burn his defenses.

Thats another reason the jets need another HC, it's impractical to build a defense around high salaried CBs, those positions are not going to make the difference for any defense 99% of the game.

It's been proven over the years that the front seven have the most impact on a game when a defense is built correctly.

The Baltimore Ravens have lost 5 CB this year, they are 9-5 and will probably make the playoffs. If the jets want to have that kind of consistency as a team then they need a GM and a HC who don't build their defense around CBs.

It's the bottom line on this CB issue. All teams are missing CBs and starting backups or practice squad guys. The guys we have aren't really that bad. I can't accept this as an excuse then for a 3-11. The idea that we didn't sign one cornerback is the reason we are losing. Or a direct attempt to sabotage Rex. With better coaching and D schemes we wouldn't be 3-11. For years now too much success by other teams finding holes in our D esp on 3rd and long.

Years or two seasons? Cro didn't play to salary expectations last season and got cut for it..It's Idzik's fault we didn't bring him back on a cheaper deal something he was open to. Rex has had 1st or 2nd best overall defense since he's been coach of this team. His D schemes are not the problem in the secondary it's cleary the talent. When we've had the talent in the secondary we were a much better defense even with not as good of D-line/LB play.

Patriots used to have a horrible secondary until they went out and got Talib.. They lost him and made Revis their #1 priority last offseason knowing their defense worked a lot easier with a #1 shutdown corner. Walls wouldn't be a #3 on most teams and Wilson would've been cut last year. Lets blame Rex's scheme for our shitty secondary and not the fact we expected to replace Cromartie with a mental head case that was never a full time starter when we needed an upgrade from Cro as it was.

Really it's speculation on why Cro wasn't re-signed and the amount of money it would have taken. There were some rumors that Rex at the end wanted him back (after they didn't get a few other guys). Hey look, there just weren't that many good Cbs available last year and the Jets did make offers to two guys. They signed with other teams. In other words there was competition for their services. The guy Idzik wanted and went after was Vontae Davis but he re-signed with the Colts. As for Cro not too many Jets fans were broken hearted that he didn't come back after last season.

completely inaccurate. It was the best FA CB class i've seen, and there probably won't be another like it for some time.

There are at least 10 players from that FA class who are having very good years.
7 of the top 15 CB's this season were available as FA's.
.....and with all those options.....we went with Patterson.

Idzik's handling of the CB position over the last two years has been atrocious. no 2 ways about it.

The Ravens have lost 5 CBs this year, starters and backups, they have a tough schedule and managed to have a 9-5 record and are in the middle of a playoff race, they are bandaging their secondary with practice squad players that have had very little experience as starters.

How do their coaches manage to keep that defense strong enough to keep the team in the playoff race with practice squad players starting at CB and the jets can't?

The fact they played the NFC South instead of the North helps..to go along with facing the whole AFC South I'd slow down on tough schedule.
They have a SB winning QB, Better Oline, and picked CJ Mosely one spot before we got Calvin Pryor.
We didn't have much of a Pass Rush when we were successful, most teams struggle in a particular area..We just happen to struggle the most in two of the most important areas in football.
Sucks we've been down the past two years in the secondary but I'm not blaming it on Rex or Thurman, who had the top secondary in the NFL when the pieces were there. I blame it on the guy who saw it was a weakness last year and thought Patterson/Milliner/Walls was acceptable and thats before Patterson went AWOL and Milliner got hurt.

their D is very similar to ours. terrible against the pass (ranked 30th) but quite good against the run.
losing Ngata now too, i think their D is going to struggle even more.

the difference is a much better offense, led by a much better QB, against a more workable schedule.
our QB play was as dreadful as our secondary unfortunately.

I don't know about 7. But we bid on at least two guys and they made the decision to sign with other teams. They did sign Patterson who was considered a decent NFL Cb with experience. It didn't work out but I don't see how that is Idzik's fault. On paper it was a good signing. To me this claim that not signing one corner (when a good percentage of starters have been injured anyways) as being a key reason for our record is not true.

    Jets defense rankings below:

    PTS
    25.7
    (24th)

    YDS
    329.8
    (6th)

    PASS YDS
    242.3
    (20th)

    RUSH YDS
    87.5
    (4th)
    (league rank)

The jets defense with the secondary that Idzik is getting the blame for putting together has this defense in better shape than the Ravens defense.

    Ravens defensive stats below:

    PTS
    19.1
    (6th)

    YDS
    344.2
    (13th)

    PASS YDS
    259.9
    (30th)

    RUSH YDS
    84.3
    (3rd)

The jets are 6 overall in defense and the Ravens are 13th overall.

This is my point about the anti Idzik argument, everyone keeps pointing to the CB, yet the jets are 20th against the pass while the Ravens are 30th, their CB situation is hurting them also but they have managed to overcome those problems, as you guys have pointed out.

The Ravens offense has offset the deficiencies of their defense, while Idzik tried to address the cb situation, in my opinion the biggest issue has been once again the offensive side of the ball, it has not bailed out the defense at all this year and that's where I blame Idzik, for the Geno Smith selection.

According to pro football focus rankings, 7 of the top 15 performing CB's this season were available as FA's.
None of the Jets CB's even cracked the top 50.
you don't see that as a glaring indictment on Idzik?

Idzik's job is to address glaring holes, and he had the means to do so.
I don't care if he bid on 2 guys. He greatly underbid, showed no sense of urgency, and ultimately didn't get it done. that only supports my point.

Our biggest need was CB (outside of QB), the HC has a proven track record of defensive results when the CB quality is good, and this FA crop of CB's was one of the best ever. It's absolutely criminal to walk away with Patterson in that scenario.

And if you don't think CB is a HUGE reason for our record, then i don't know what else to say.
We've let up 29 passing TDs.
I've seen you claim 'scheme' over and over. Do you realize we were badly burnt in the secondary in just about every scheme there is?
We haven't played much of Rex's successful defensive schemes of the past. Instead we've been grasping at straws trying other things to mask that secondary, and to very little avail.

I don't blame Idzik for the Geno selection. I blame Rex for not helping put him in a position to win. It's like he never learned from the whole Sanchez thing. Trying to curb a young QB in a run heavy offense and directing their throws to be really safe hurts them in the long run. You can help them along with that thinking, but you have to live the with the problem of having a rookie QB

Are you bringing up the Ravens in defense of Idzik's decision making?? They may have patchwork CBs but care to compare their 2014 draft to Idziks? That's like comparing Idzik's shit burger to a steak. And they picked right around the Jets in virtually every round. I wouldn't say its proving any point about Idzik's competence to look at the Ravens.

Oh- and just to show how little you know they haven't had a tough schedule. 6 of their 9 wins came against the horrible NFC south, 2-12 tennessee and 2-12 jax

FO Homers were happy to see Cro go because they just defer analysis to whatever the FO is doing. I guess out of some misplaced sense of loyalty, or the logical fallacy of appeal to, imo in this case, false authority.

But I was very unhappy they let Cro go, and once again I was right. He's had a very good season with the Cards, and he would have been a huge help for the Jets.

This post contradicts your previous post, and you are another poster guilty of binary thinking in failing to recognize that overall team success is a COMBINATION of the effort by the D and the O. The Jets have huge problems on both sides of the ball. Smith sucking does not mean the shit Cb roster is not a problem. They are both problems.

Regarding your prior post, Baltimore is having success, so far, because their O is compensating for their poor pass D. Their pass D is 30th in yards allowed, tied for 21st with two others in ypa at 7.6, tied with Pitt at 25th for Ints', and 25th in opponent Qb rating. I would hardly say they are doing well in pass D despite their downgrade in the secondary roster.

OK then who are the seven. And how do you know he underbid. Maybe Davis and DRC preferred other teams. I still feel Patterson was a good signing. They didn't know the guy was going to act like a doucebag.

If Cro was here they'd still have a way under .500 record. One guy or position isn't the reason despite all of the amateur analysis. If Rex has backup Cbs like a lot of teams are playing then he has to adjust a lot better than what we've seen on the field. Holes in the D that other teams consistently pick on. It's not just a coverage issue it's his scheme also.
