maybe he's just saying this so that if the fins win the toss that they don't defer but receive. rex wants to start on d and if he says he wants to start with o, hes gets to start on d no matter who wins the "toin coss"
I don't understand the obsession with the slant pattern. I mean is there something magical about the slant that I don't know about? Of course we run it, I can think of a few TD's off the top of my head that were slants.
I think he's being himself, not everything is about Belichick. With Mangini it was, not Rex. Regarding the coin toss, I always like gettng the ball in the second half but we'll see what happens. In New England we held them to 3 on the opening drive and nearly got our own 3 back, so that didn't really kill us. Missing the FG and giving them the ball back on the 40 or whatever is what let them really build up momentum.
I made a thread about this midway last year. I like receiving the ball first especially with a supposedly great defense and run game. Get the lead fast and dont give it back. Of course its nice to receive starting the second half but Id rather put the opportunity to put the opposition on their heels more.
I would still defer if we won the toss. As mentioned, lets not try to change thing up in a panic. If Rex defers most of the time, keep doing it. The defense needs the confidence as well, and we're home.
....or its always first down pass (inc) 2nd down always a run for literally nothing 3rd and long short dump off or incomplete PUNT. If i only had a nickel for how many times we have seen that this year.
You know what I find weird? All season last year I watched wide receiver screens. Every other play was a wide receiver screen, and we hardly ever ran slants. This season, we've been running slants like they're going out of style, and I can't remember seeing more than two wide receiver screens.
Literally laughed out loud. I didn't even notice. I'm gonna go coss the football around with my nephew right now.
You never saw it because you could not defer to the second half. If you won the toss you could elect to kick or receive. If you elect to kick, at the start of the second half, the other team gets the choice and would elect to receive. You would end up kicking at the beginning of both halves. It was only a few years ago that they brought the college defer rule in.
I remember week 1, Dallas vs. Washington Dallas ran that screen to Dez every other play and it got stuffed pretty much every time
I wonder if he's losing faith in the defense. Or maybe he wants.the offense to get off to.a.better.start. its all a moot point because now we won't win the toin coss again for the rest of the season.
