Bill took away Weis's playcalling in '99, maybe in '98 too. I don't know about other teams doing it that much, I know Billick fired his best friend Fassel mid-season and the Ravens turned their season around to make the playoffs I think.

I just hope we don't find out when Schotty's gone that the head coach is the real problem, the way we did when Hackett took all the grief then we ran the same exact offense with Heimerdinger - the common denominator of course being Hermie.

Rex is starting to worry me if he thinks the offense is too complex now, if we dumbed it down anymore it would be a Tecmo Bowl playbook.

You change what's not working if you want to get anywhere. The Jets did that last season and got somewhere. It'd be nice if they made whatever change they're going to make early this season because all the fairy dust that got sprinkled on us at the end of the season and got us into the playoffs last season is probably like 10,000 to 1 to not be available in December this year.

Am I the only one that thinks Sanchez deserves some blame here? I know the playcalling was awful (it sucked ass)but the execution sucked too. Sanchez had a clean pocket for most of the night and a suspect secondary to work against. The running game wasn't working, but the defense and special teams were consistently putting him in great field position.

This was a night where Sanchez needed to step up for the team to win and, frankly, the "step up" he had to take wasn't a very big. I know Schotty didn't help him, but he played poorly regardless. He was the one who opted to take all the checkdowns after taking all of half a second to write off his deep and intermediate routes. Considering how Sanchez went out of his way to mention how pleased his was about the prospect of taking quick check down routes. I think Sanchez deserves some blame here.

I'm not saying Schotty shouldn't be blamed at all, but I think Sanchez has some accountability here.

of course he deserves some blame, there's plenty to go around too. Sanchez, receivers, schotty, rex - they all get credit for the slap dickedness.

So if the Jets were to seize Schotty's role as OC/playcaller, then do they fire him? Because what other role would he serve? QB Coach? I don't think I want that either.

    Yeah he'd be fired.

There is no demoting here. He's gone, and I would guarantee a vast improvement from Sanchez.

Well, like I said, I'm all for that move.

But I still wonder if the Jets organization would do it because it'll create a big fuss that'll disappear if and only if there's immediate improvement.

After seeing Tannenbaum on Hard Knocks, I have no doubt that this guy is one tough & cold SOB that isn't afraid to make the hard decisions. If the offence doesn't turn it around BS is as good as gone

What scares the shit out of me is their love for this guy.

Tanny and Woody love him and I have no idea why. He should have been kicked with Mangini, but Mangini's two coordinators are still here. One is rightfully a position coach and the other continues to stall a promising defense and QB. Its gut wrenching.

^ 4 different QBs.. Penny, Clemens, Favre, and Sanchez

It took Rex half the season last year to break down and get more hands-on w/ the offense. Looks like this year it took just one game. I think his patience with Schotty is wearing thin.

This is the perfect game to make the move then, because Sanchez could have a mediocre outing next week and it would likely be an improvement over what we saw on Monday.

I still can't understand where Schotty's brain goes too on the nights that the Jets are clearly being held back by his play-calling. Does he just not see that there's a total disaster happening on his watch? Does he have no clue how to shake things up?

Buffalo last year was probably the worst brainfart I've ever seen a professional coach have. 300+ yards on the ground and you suddenly decide the rookie needs to air it out to keep the chains moving? In the wind and rain? Really? What the...

Then you have this disaster where we literally watched the game flushed down the drain, not by risky turnovers, not by getting flatout outdistanced by the other offense, but by slowly bleeding to death as play after play turned into nothing. Yes, Sanchez deserves some blame for poorly executing the gameplan, assuming we can discern a gameplan at some point. I still can't figure out what Schotty thought the Jets were supposed to be doing last night. If you give a great defense no opposition they're going to shut you down all night and the Jets gave the Ravens no opposition on the offensive side of the ball.

What's really sad is that Schotty said Sanchez had his best day of practice before the game, might have been friday or saturday.

.... and then last night happened.

Actually, if a move isn't made now/soon, then I wonder if one will ever be made.

This is the second time in 2 seasons (approx 15 months) that Rex has had to intervene with Schotty's job. Last season took a little bit longer than this season. If that hasn't smacked the Front Office on the head, then what will?

It's the second time in 10 months that Rex has had to intervene. He went at Schotty in November last year.

Schotty is like a classical composer trying to play jazz when what you need in the NFL is hard rock.

Schotty "So, then you jump once and WR1 starts motion, stops, stutter steps and sets. Then call rainbow dick, tap twice, motion left and tap once and call Z. TE1 will wiggle and set up at HB. HB will motion left and line up at LG. Then wiggle and call Hornet, hike the ball and look for FB 1-2 yards out left. Got it?"

    KC "HUH?"

    MS "Are you high?"
